The LNERCA also had two coaches being shunted in and out of Pickering Station both days, allowing visitors to have a look inside nearly completed Gresley 3669 and forthcoming lottery project ECJS 189, whilst nearly finished Thompson TK 1623 was also available for visiting in the Atkins shed - all three attracting considerable interest and favourable comment. Just goes to show that things can be done to add interest beyond spending vast sums on visiting engines, if you accept that a gala ought to be an occasion to showcase the railway as a whole.

I found an SD memory card on Saturday whilst at the NYMR event, on the old track/footpath at Moorgates going toward Goathland. If it's your's p/m me and I'll post it to you.

Visited on Saturday, looked quite busy, the trains with Tornado in particular looked well loaded, and it was also drawing crowds to the lineside for each run up the bank.

Couple of photos I took can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60283079@N05/

Sorry old man, don't understand your banter. I'm of the opinion that galas have lost their way and should be about more than providing photo opportunities for linesiders. The coaches generated a lot of interest at the cost of burning a bit of diesel fuel, and did so between trains, what's the problem with that?

You obviously disagree with that comment, in which case what do you think a gala should be?

Ah, now I see it, your first language isn't english! You are confusing the word "whole" (meaning a complete entity) with "hole", one connotation of which is indeed a dive or dump but I purposely chose to use the word "whole" because I thought most readers would understand.

I had a feeling that might be the case, and a suspicion that you are probably still at school as well. Geordie is a dialect not a language, although it is certainly a very mangled form of english. However, I was writing for those who understand the proper form!

Before we get too sidetracked, my original point stands - a gala should be more about showcasing all that a railway can offer, not just visiting engines. I'd rather we discussed that than wander down the inability of ethnic groups to understand the subtlties of homophones (no, nothing to do with hatred of gay men, Henry!).

I'm safe then. They'll never recognise me -and if they're anything like you they'll be looking for a cross between something used to fire arrows and a pack of ready salted!
