Well, the RTC is still saying it'll be Galatea so I'll be up before dawn to get to it. Will be interesting to compare with SG especially over the Tebay-Shap section. I have to say that the RTC has really priced this competitively. £69 from London is a bargain compared with £85 from VTL who are using Galatea in November and with less steam mileage.

I was told it was a valve problem (can't confirm this though) that meant that SG ran this week instead. Fingers crossed it's fixed and for some decent weather, too.

That was the best performance that 6115 has done I a long time. Congrats

Indeed it was a good perfromance once 46115 got going. On the 1 in 75 up Shap she was dropping about 7/8 mph per mile passing Scout Green at 45. Given the rail conditions, the driver was wise not to push her too hard over the last section although the videos suggest otherwise!

I'd suggest the problem lies elsewhere, given Vintage Trains tours that use Carnforth power usually end up with that booked, without wishing to have too much of a dig, RTC tours rarely run as originally advertised.

I agree with you David. It seems as though the only really predictable locomotive this summer has been 61994 on The Fellsman and Welsh Mountaineers for the most part.

Thinking about it, loco musical chairs has been a large feature this year regardless of TOC, it's happened enough on DBS ones too with 60163, 4464 and 34046 all being replaced by others at various points, though you could say A steam loco is better than none, not ideal if you after a specific loco, but not having a backup doesn't make the original any more available.

45699 sounded a bit ill at Hayfell bridge near Kendal with a major steam leak from the drivers side cylinder . Video to follow later.

We did make it to Carlisle but 14 over Shap was quite a struggle. Lucky that the WCML was late so all Galatea did was reduce drinking time. Not steam tight either.

Looks like the return run is a bit of a struggle, too. RTT says they lost 8 mins between Carlisle and Appleby, and another 8 between Appleby and Kirkby Stephen... Although that's much the same as last week with 46115.
