I have been so focused on what your country has to offer that I have completely, nearly skipped over the US steam calendar. So, I will be posting a few threads because Mainline steam over here has been on the upswing.

Nickel Plate 765 powered a pair of trips Fort Wayne to Lafayette dubbed "The Wabash Cannonball".
Here is an 11 minute clip from this past weekend.

Thanks for that Mike some good coverage. Irealise that it's the way things are in the US but with all the whistle/hooter blowing you rarely get to hear the loco exhaust properly.

Agreed. And also good to see proper combustion and exhaust. I guess they know where to get the right coal in the US.

Excellent stuff Mike. And unlike Ralph I find American loco whistles/hooters to be exhilarating, more please.:)

Absolutely wonderful, Autumn colours, 16 on the back, an exhaust like Vesuvius and an engineer who thinks he's a musician. :D

The run through Rockfield at five minutes is just something else and it's not until the end when you see a crew member that you get an idea of the scale of the loco.

Can we not do a swap for "Eisenhower"!!

765 is one of my faves. 2-8-4's are pretty cool I think. 70mph fast freights were her thing in the day.

Didn't say I don't like them it's just they have to use them so much with all the open crossings etc. and this wipes out the exhaust sound on the video.

Thanks for sharing Mike1522 , good to see the 2-8-4 stretching its legs a bit , glad of the upsurge in steam south of the 49th , hopefully it will spread up to Canada - -a bit bleak on the mainline at the moment .

Thats great, I love the sound of American 5 or 6 chimes, but I can't stand the bells, the bells, they made me deaf you know.

Its also good to see a yankee engine with proper exhaust because its running on coal, not greasy oil..
