I'm suddenly thinking of a very appropriate Eric Clapton song!

    Evening All

Continuing on from the Holbeck photos David Gower has given me 4 photos of Alberta including this one

45562 approaching Blea Moor, I believe it was the last day of this steam working, end August 1967, judging by the number of people hanging out of the windows it was something special

Hell Neil, they brought back some memories. Photo #2 in the first set was my normal "escape" route, whilst being hotly pursued by some big fella wanting to connect his boot with my backside.:)
    Happy days

    Hi Vic

    Thanks for your comments
I was 11 year old in 1967 and never made it to Holbeck
All I remember is going to Paddock & Longwood just west of Huddersfield and seeing endless streams of filthy Stanier 5F's & 8F's, WD 2-8-0's where the number was invisible due to the grime & big 9F's on fuel tankers heading or coming from Lancashire over Standedge, and of course the future, the Trans-Pennine class 124 dmu's
Oh how I wish I had had a camera at the time

    regards

    Neil

the 9F's on the tankers were out of Ellesmere Port and they were coming to my workplace at Liversedge via Healy Mills. Punctuallity was what was required and sad to say it was appalling, 9/10 hours late was normal, sometimes next day, then all hands to the pump to get em offloaded because there was another train load stacked up at Healy Mills, if the oil went cold it solidified (pumps couldn't handle it) and then it could need a week with steam running through the tank coils to get it back to liquid form. British Rail were a contributory factor (a big one) into us at Liversedge being made redundant in 1984, we relied on being 100% rail fed, BR failed us. I was bitter then and time hasn't mellowed me. We had a wonderful job, a happy terminal, good industrial relations and it all went boobs up because BR couldn't fulfil the contract.
