I was thinking that if the CathEx was 15 or more late, they'd pass on the outskirts of Chester. Actually, that would still be worth seeing, even with Britannia replaced by Riley's twins.

Probably acceleration as much as anything, the slow lines south of Wolverton will be pretty busy and slow/fast trains crossing each others paths at places like Rugby, Colwich and Stafford.

1258-1305 Chester with 70013, the trip is now continuing onwards to Crewe, instead of terminating at Chester.., 70013 arrives Crewe at 13.37.
44871/45407 arrive 1301 at Chester from Crewe

presumably servicing 3 at Chester maybe too much, so do the 5's there and Cromwell at Crewe.

Similar story on the reverse, whilst 44871 / 45407 simmer at the east end of Chester station for a 1640 departure, 70013 will slide in from Crewe at 16.27, for a 16.37 departure.

I suspect RTT may need to up the memory on the server on Saturday morning.. I predict a spike in demand.

You wait months to get a shot of a steam loco along the Crewe to Chester line then dammit three come along and in both directions... Pity the last one is nearly 5pm, standing in the middle of a field in the dark.....nearest road half a mile, no habitation, only things rustling in the undergrowth.. o_O
Note to self stop reading those jungle exploration books.

You might hear an Owl or two though Ralph. Been having an Owlfest down here BTW. A rare Long-Eared Owl taking the staring role with up to 4 Barn Owls at a time as the supporting cast. Plus a cameo appearance of a Little Owl. But no Short-Eareds. Yet.

And of course the shot to get at 17.00 is a silhouette of the train with an Owl flying past you at the same time, highlighted by appearing with the white exhaust trail from the train behind it................................

    Sheer magic.

    Or Photoshop!

I will be on the lookout for anything flying, and it will give me a chance to try out the cameras 'night shot' setting.

Forgive me, as I do not understand the constant reference to an Owl. Is it s SR 0-6-0 tank class locomotive or perhaps a 4-6-2 Pacific. Surely it is not a bird? Mr Yeti gave me the impression he was a steam man, not a man who kept an eye out for the birds!!! LOL

Come on Ken, which is it?

And here they are at Apsley, 25 minutes out of Euston. This one turned out really well if I say so myself. Of course I timed it so the orange morning sun would break through and illuminate the exhaust, and I arranged for the two service trains to frame it, and I had pre booked the whistle location for added Doppler.

Love the framing the modern stock provides. Sadly Hattons shed allocated a A4 instead of the promised D16/1 this morning. Hopefully sorted next week.

All lined up in a field for this shot of the 5s sweeping through the Cheshire countryside when this woman strolled straight across my shot just as they came into sight. After the train had passed I went to her and asked if she realised that having stood there for 40 minutes to ensure a clear view she had just ruined it. Oh she said because you were standing so far back I did not think you were filming. I politely pointed out there was this thing called telephoto....
