Unfortunately another box assisted train. Sensible with a Brit and 12 and the restart on the 1:85 start on the curve at Abergavenny. Glad I didn't travel. Went to Llanvihangel Summit Bridge to watch and the Class 37 was working as hard as the Brit.

That is a real shame it had assistance, particularly considering 70000's superb unassisted performance on the same route only last Saturday(mind you we didnt call at(and thus have to restart from) Abergavenny). I am so glad I was on that one and not this one.

But no doubt the 37 will be useful to get the turn and servicing done quicker at Crewe.....

Disappointing for those on the train that the 37 is on the back shoving but not surprised that it's there after incidents during the past week. Better to have it there than not and cause headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Well I was at AGV and there was a fair bit of slipping on the restart, very little Diesel assistance, just taking it's own weight I'd say. I then went to 'Llavy' summit and whilst the 37 was working it was not full bore imo, nor was it at Morton-on-Lug.

I'll get my vid up later.

I didn't notice any shoving at STJ, Llanvihangel or Moreton-on-Lugg either. Here's a photo!

My footage from today's run, seen at Narroways Junction, on Llanvihangel Bank, and at Moreton on Lugg.

What's happened has probably got little to do with it, once again it's down to decisions by the TOCs and NR.

Some great pics & vids, here's my offering filmed at Abergavenny, Llanvihangel Bank, and Moreton on Lugg
Some slips at Abergavenny but the 37 is only taking it's own weight.

    Yes makes sense.

    BUT, this could get worrying.

To avoid the adverse comments etc from us steam fanatics, all those involved with running trips have to do now is to arrange for a stop at a difficult re start location. Never run with less than 12 cars, and bingo! We are silenced for ever. Except we will all sit here and nod wisely in agreement with the box being on the back of the train when we see that Westbury is always stopped at on the return to London. Also for Poole, Abergavenny, Bromsgrove, Radstock  and the like. Although suspicions may be roused if trains booked Kings Cross to York and return all have a scheduled stop at Upwey, (London direction).
