Are these the spans that took the Tewkesbury - Great Malvern line over the M50? If so I always thought that there were two separate spans; one over each carriageway.

Martin - there is more information here:

    http://www.miac.org.uk/m50bridge.html

As far as I can tell, we have the two spans that carried the railway over the M50 (one over each carriageway). There is an entirely separate adjacent bridge that carried a road over the M50 which is still in situ AFAIK.

Well, I've looked all over the MHR website and the only reference I can find is: "It was good to see the 9F back with us after it’s holiday on the "Bluebell Line” It did come back with a busted spring though (and a replacement, to be fair) and so it had been placed in the wheeldrop where yesterday, the old spring had been removed." What is there to read into that? It is you that has jumped to conclusions, not me. Broken springs are a fact of steam locomotive life, not just on the Bluebell. When the NYMR examined 34007 at Ropley with a view to it attending their gala, it had at least one broken spring.

Sorry I should of worded it better I meant it was a single span over each carriageway, with the road side by side with the rail bridge. The road ones are also down now hence why Bow Lane is still closed, the Bluebell does indeed have the rail spans, they never saw much use as the deviation over the m50 from the original route was only in use for a couple of years before the line closed.

Springs should be seen as running consumables - from time to time springs break - its a simple fact of life. breakages are not confined to locos. From time to time a coach spring will break. The driver on a pacific only has 18 to check. For an 8 coach train the guard has 64!

Steve, I think you are being over sensitive.

The 9F has had more than it,s fair share of broken springs lately, and like yourself I am entitled to my opinion to what I believe the problem is.

Just because my opinion disagrees with yours , there is little need to start a war of words IMHO.

Shall we leave it at that then?

I've no intention of starting a war of words, just defending my corner, as anyone would - and, by default the Bluebell, with which I have no connection whatever. However, we'll agree to disagree.

Spring breakages do happen, though I am not sure that I would describe springs as consumables as that would suggest that they break frequently, which with good set up and decent track, and not too many low loader moves, they ought (and often do) last for many many years.

    Thanks Simon.

I heard from a very reliable source this evening that other thing are going to need to be mended or replaced on the 9F, however this forum is nether the time of the place to discuss this IMHO.

    Best regards

So you say that this is neither the time or place to discuss an allegation that you have just made, so why make it in the first place, hoping that mud sticks perhaps.

A disingenuous comment to say the least, suggest you either qualify it or withdraw it.

Ralph it was not an allegation and a court of law would not think so either.

I said I heard from a very reliable source so please relax and see what facts come up in the future.

Not really Chris it seems that you are just flaming for the sake of Yawn!!! You have so missed the point Ralph was making and you know full well what you are saying. If that is the response you are going to make then don't say it in the first place.

Some of you on this forum need to get a life, and fast!

Where are YOUR facts then Pete?, do you know for certain that I am fabricating this?, do you have information that nobody else is aware of?, do you have friends in high places, are members of the Bluebell or have volunteered there? I doubt it very much.
Most of you remind me of a pack of wolves with the scent of blood without knowing why you are running in the pack if you ask me.

Allow me repeat myself for the hard of hearing ,I have very good information from very reliable sources that what I said in an earlier post is true.

If Pete you and others have information that disputes this, then let me place on record that I will publicly apologize on this forum and retract all I have said on the subject .

    Over to you

    Regards
    Chris:

Why would I need to present facts? It is you with all the claims and nothing in this thread to back it up. Also Chris believes that it is not the place to discuss this yet has to post it, kind of a contradiction really.

This looks like another case of 'I know something but I'm not telling you' syndrome. If there are facts then there should be no problem sharing them.

The comment elsewhere is :- " It (the 9F) did come back with a busted spring (and a replacement, to be fair)"... So one might be so bold as to wonder if there was a matter of a phone call between the Bluebell and the Mid Hants along the lines of "do we keep it and delay the return transport, while we change the spring, or shall we send the loco back as booked, complete with the replacement spring for you to fit"
Hypothesis I know, but doesn't sound like a big issue, does it?
