Rumour control was right, then! Looks like we will get to know all there is to know eventually. All we have to do is wait a good while.

Quoting from the RAIB website for those that don't read it: "The RAIB would be pleased to hear from anyone who has a photograph or video recording showing detail of the right-hand side of Tangmere, taken at Waterloo or subsequently on the journey during the evening of Saturday 23 November." Should be quite a few on here who can provide such info.

In the 1960 Settle incident with the Britannia, the first nut and bolt securing the slide bar was discovered some thirty miles back from the accident. It will be interesting to see whether the missing nut and cotter is found, and if so where. Just thinking of the people involved in walking the track in 1960 to identify loco parts and who would do it nowadays, if indeed that happens.

The Brit bits could have been found by the p/way lengthmen on their routine inspections? You'd be surprised at what we find just looking after 15 miles of the CVR/MCR.

Unless someone specifically walked the track I doubt it will be found.. It could be anywhere and bounced on any number of feet.. If found it could be years.

Local p-way doing their track-walk every week are the best bet, as Sheff had noted.

Mods, we now seem to have two threads running in parallel discussing Tangmere, the events of the 23rd and the Nat Pres follow up investigation. Is it sensible to lock this one?

Agreed Steve, as the railtour in question has been and gone and as you say the subject is discussed in the other thread which is the best place for discussion of what is an engine issue I have locked this one purely so comment can be all in one place and avoid duplication. Should anyone wish to discuss the actual tour please contact one of the Moderation team so we can arrange for it to be reopened. The said topic is here - http://www.national-preservation.com/threads/tangmere.32536/page-7

    Regards

    Pete
