I didn't think £25 is unreasonable amount to pay for a day out these days when you compare the price of other attractions in the UK. If this years Spring gala is going to be based around small locos I wouldn't mind seeing a GWR 57xx or the steam rail motor.

I am told that the hire charge for the rail motor is a tad on the high side. If true that may explain why since its return to Didcot it hasn't visited other heritage lines.

It's currently at Barry where it's been since August and then off to the the Churnet Valley for their February gala. It's hardly been at Didcot, visiting the SDR, WSR and Llangollen all this year too.

Keeping prices pegged is a double edged sword ok until you have to play catch up at which point people forget that you held them static for so long.

True BUT it wont have been a decision taken lightly by the powers that be!

Trust me, they will have dipped their toe in the water before making an informed decision................... and as I said given the ever increasing cost of things, and when all around are pushing up their prices well in advance of the MHR (and lets face it coal aint as cheap as chips no more) if you want some of that steamy action you're gonna have to pay for it and standard travel has only crept up in line with others, so I think the family events will do the same as they are the core income, us "Puffer Nutters" are a completely different market..................................

Still Back to the gala!................................................ ;)

I suspect that chips are actually far more expensive than coal, but I know what you mean.

With any luck there will be an update on the MHR web site about visiting locos. It's only around ten weeks until the gala.

My mate at University used to do chips which looked surprisingly like coal by the time he'd finished.

... Especially for those of us who are photographically-challenged by moving targets! :)

    OK, I'll fetch my coat...

    Tom

PS - more seriously - am quite tempted by the L&Y 0-6-0 as it is not an engine seen much down south, provided it does full-line turns.

Not unreasonable for any Gala in my view. What is annoying is the freeloading linesiders who never go near a station to pay the fare. We often go linesiding but always buy a ticket and do a couple of trips as well.
