Hasn't 35006 been 'almost certain' for the last 20 years or so?! :D

If we're talking about the first to steam then I think 4270 has a very good chance. Hope is for February. We start the new season in march and I hope it will be available by then.

I must admit, if you read back to the 2011 reports then it talks of "a few months max" but then some items did get stolen around then, and I really think it will be soon, having seen it in the carpark back in May! And seeing as 4270 has been booked into the new paintshop.sometime In 2014 I'm hopeful for that too.

I thought 35006 would be ready first, is this still the case? That means possibly 3 new locos to kick off the season!

Re 35006 there should be some good news soon. The tender is receiving attention after attempts to hire a tender came to nothing. The work centres around making the new brake gear but this is now on hand. Apart from the colour the smoke deflectors now really make it look like an MN

4270 will be first. The p&o guys are valiantly plugging away and will get there.

Yes, definitely not City of Wells. Never had it on the ML except in BR ownership. Always sounded more 'right' than Tangmere as well. There's a great video of her from Austin on the S&C here:

Sorry about the digression but it does prove that there's nothing wrong with un unrebuilt Bulleid on hills!

As stated by The Saggin' Dragon above we hope to have 46447 in steam in the second half of the year.

Good to learn - any chance of a further update on the 46447 Overhaul thread?

Are you having a race with the 41298 team????????????

Will 4270 be the only Churchward loco still with inside steam pipes to be restored to working order?

How unobservant can I get? I think I averted my gaze from those nameplates!

How come they're considering hiring a tender? P&O's own appeared to be at an advanced stage last I heard anything about it?

It might be the case that the loco will be finished well before the tender, so they might have decided to hire in a tender while they sort out the brake rigging (or dare I say, proper BFB tender wheels? The lack of them is noticeable on some of the Bulleid restorations (34027, 34046 and 35006 so far). However, its academic now, anyway, as they're getting on with the new tender.

City of Wells had a stint of running in the 1980's so yes doesn't qualify

    78018, 41298, 4270, 35006 all do
