i'm still getting my head around it being preserved in working order, and mechanically complete in 1967 at nine elms… and having never run since despite being at locations with running tracks and workshop facilities.

I think quite a few people consider the history of 41298 since withdrawal to be a bit illogical, especially considering that two more class 2's were added to the stud relatively early on,

The rods were taken down at Nine Elms before it was towed to Longmoor by a D65XX, they were never refitted before it left again as far as I am aware.

Ribble Steam Railway are likely to have 2 Industrials as first time steamers in 2014, Bagnall No 2680 of 1942, formerly known as Birchenwood No4 is scheduled to appear at Feb Gala as Conqueror ( ex Preston Dock Loco).

Sole surviving Grant Richie 0-4-0 st No 272 of 1894 is scheduled for September Gala 2014

It certainly will be one of the most unusual returns to steam given the starting point for the loco. I remember her sitting fairly forlorn behind Clan Line in an old Nissen hut at Longmoor for quite a while as 35028 was being attended to by the MNLPS and their infant workshop was created. This photo of the Ivatt (not mine) two years after she was withdrawn certainly shows that she scrubbed up well for the last Longmoor Open Day...with rods still removed as per #46.

Given the rate of progress that the Wombles of Rolvenden Common are achieving, I wouldn't rule out 4253 just yet!

You'll need all your Terriers and Austerities to weigh that down.

And after this raft of 2014 arrivals. What next? 75079? 4150 at SVR?

"Only ready when it's ready" permitting ...

true, charlie & co are going great guns, just shows you what you can achieve when you have a goal to aim for, and a reason to proove a point to those who were not in favour of the welsh tank coming in the first place, or said "you will never do it"

Is there any chance of either of the 72xx tanks at Didcot or Quainton running this year?

Ex GWR 4270 has made its first moves in 52 years. It undertook a LE test run to Cheltenham last night and looks promising to be ready for the gwsr's steam gala 24th-26th may!
