Hi everyone, about time I started the thread for the gwsr's 2014 event in May. The first news item has now gone public on the gwsr website and dinmore manors website. We are pleased to announce that the title is the Cotswold festival of steam - black is back! When returned to service hopefully during march 7820 will wear the unlined black livery that the class wore in the 1950's. The unlined black hasn't been seen on a manor since 1959 and will only worn until the group finish there own tender when it will reappear in lined green. I aim to release the name of our first guest in the next few days. I can tell you it's black! Currently sourcing a second guest.the format will be very similar to our hugely successful 2013 event with a few tweaks. I'll keep posting as and when we release news. Thanks.

How about a black pannier tank - 9600 springs to mind, would be perfect :D although it sounds like more guests have already been lined up, just not announced yet by the looks of it!

Interesting the 8f is going to be in BR livery, how long will it remain this way? Also will any other resident locos be painted in black, and if not will they still be in steam?

Oh, one last one, is it yet known how long the black five will be staying for? last year Cheltenham arrived a couple of weeks early and did some normal service trains, whereas the B12 almost arrived the day before.

Thanks, and looking forward to it

Tyseley only allows its locos to travel by rail.

Painting 7820 black will also make the point that it isn't 7903. OK, smaller boiler, smaller tender, different style of front bogie, smaller driving wheels, different name and number, but if it had been another green GWR 4-6-0 tender engine with a domeless taper boiler named after a stately home, some people may not have spotted the difference!

I'll be interested to see which number it will bear in its BR guise. A bit of none-too serious speculation here, but the possibilities include:-
48274 - the number it would have carried if it hadn't gone off to Turkey
48776 - the number it could have carried if the Turkish 8Fs had returned to the UK in BR days (following on from 48773-5 which were repatriated from somewhere, Iran, wasn't it?)
45160 - confuse everyone - reinstate the Turkish number and pretend it's a black five!

61264.... thats black and also ties in with the same theme as last year. Ie locos from all the big 4. U have gwr, lms. So for a southern loco..... woilndt imagine mid hants would let another loco go, shame as 31806 would make another great black engine. Saying that isnt 30053 in black? And being a tank would be cheaper on transport!

Could become quite a long thread if everyone suggests a selection of black locos!

Indeed. I guess quite a few of us have a "wish list" of engines we would like to see, but telling all and sundry on this forum what's on it isn't going to make a shred of difference. At the end of the day, all we can do is wait and see what turns up.

    As
As long as the work on the engine is completed at tyseley in time the engine will appear at the gala. Current estimates are for completion of the work at the end of april/early may. We haven't decided on anything regards colour as we will have to have some green! 4270 will appear in gwr livery abd of course 5542 is also green. I'm hoping to finalise the loco lineup by the end of the week.

Like last year the idea is for a corner of the shed to be open for viewing where You will be able to view progress on 4027. Last year the class 45 peak was also on display. Progress continues quietly but surely on 35006 and let's see what happens.

Are there any chances (no matter how slim) then that 35006 could be ready for the gala then? And if it's not ready, will it be on display on the unloading road again, or will there be something different for a static display this year? If so, what? :D

Thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions!
