We wouldn't endorse it if we didn't get a cut!

    And quite right too!
I suggest that some of you get a life! These "souvenirs" may not be to your taste, but then, you are dyed-in-the-wool railway enthusiasts and therefore regarded by most people as, at least, mildly eccentric. If that majority, or at least their mothers-in-law, can be persuaded to part with their cash to buy these things and it provides some benefit to the NRM and "Scotsman", then we should be glad. Personally, I find them less embarrassing than having to try and explain to my 7 y/o grandson, on our last two visits to York, the current state of the "figurehead" locomotive.

Why would you need to suggest "some" of us get lives? Anthony has answered my original question, they approved it and got a cut, that's a commercial decision. I think having a sly dig at the NRM is below the belt.

Because some posters on this thread imply that, because they do not like these objects, those who market them and by implication, the NRM, are doing something inappropriate and fooling the public. That, in my view, is a narrow-minded attitude.
I was not making a sly dig at the NRM, but pointing out that in recent years taking, particularly, youngsters and overseas visitors to see the "World's Most Famous Locomotive" involves fielding awkward and slightly embarrassing questions. The more money that can be raised to help overcome the FS problem, the better and if money-raising involves selling souvenirs that you might not want in your house, so what?

I suggested nothing of the sort. I merely wanted to know if the NRM had approved this product. They have, they are getting a cut, that's their commercial decision and I've no problem with it. Horrible item, hopefully no one I know will buy me one

Couldnt afford to, but as a mild eccentric you are running a terrible risk of being believed to like this kind of object by 'Normal' people.;)

who say anything about the NRM ?, trading standards woulden't let you sell an apple as an orange, so why is saying something has "an authentic bell" when it doesn't allegedly acceptable ?, that's just misselling regardless of the item at hand.

The NRM has endorsed the product and is therefore implicated in it's marketing."Misselling"? It's a harmless toy, for goodness sake, raising money for and the profile of, FS and the NRM. What on earth is wrong with that?

It could be Tank from the Russian Military, the item at hand is not the issue, selling it saying it has real item like the original when it doesn't is what's wrong.

I'm not standing over saying about the bell, I did say I THOUGHT they said it had an authentic bell sound, but I could have misheard.

Fair enough then, if there's an element of doubt I can't really press the point.
