Met 1 is unfortunate in not fitting in anywhere, even it's native LUL metals are very different now.

35028 at Alresford on an LCGB railtour to Swanage, February 1966

maybe they could find that Dorset Belle Headboard for the day, and run the Thumper too. :)

According to Steam Railway mag. Met1 will more than likely work shuttles between Alresford and Ropley.

    Lets wait and see...................................

They may or may not be right, BUT its been a few years since we had the A - R shuttles, on a personal note I think it would be a shame if she wasn't allowed to tackle the alps solo with an appropriate load, BUT given her recent history AND the fact that other lines she's visited used her on 'locals' and also the big unknown of the weather, it just might be the sensible thing to do!!

Maybe she could do what 1744 did at the Autumn Gala in 2011 where she had one round trip from Alrersford to Alton early in the morning and then worked shuttles for the rest of the day.

I suppose the only way it's going to get over the Alps is if it's being pushed. Even then it'll probably run hot.

Met 1 could perhaps work shuttles from Ropley to Medstead. It has been done before with 41312 on one occasion and something else but I can't remember what tank it was.

The reason for the "slightly out of place MET 1" is that this is the last vestige of a plan to have a tank engine gala.

It's coming back to me now I think as I seem to remember both 5542 and Birch Grove took turns on two coach shuttles between either Ropley and Medstead or Ropley and Alton in 2007?

I seem to remember seeing (and feeling) 5542 going up to Medstead with shuttles, standing in TDS Saddlers underneath the Medstead Road bridge at Lymington Bottom you cvould feel the place shake!

That's a shame if that hasn't come off, tank engines are just so much more fun

Clan Line has been officially confirmed for the Mid Hants Gala. Found this on the Clans news feed. "The plan is for Clan Line to haul trains on all three days, but also to spend some time on display at Alresford, with access for visitors to the cab, so this is a perfect opportunity for Society members to revisit their loco, and for members of the public to enter the cab, perhaps for the first time." Sounds like a great opportunity to spend some time on the footplate of a Merchant Navy.

Usually a week or so before...................... lets face it, the loco's aren't there yet, and something could still go wrong with any of them!

I suppose it depends which way round the visitors are facing, so don't hold you breath, first week in March is likely!!
