She coped OK with the Cumbrian Jubilee for VT last back end....and that even included a standing start from Tebay.

Only 10 on the VT Train and wasn't the stop at Tebay that day because of a lack of steam???

Just so, but that was with 10, not 11, and after having sorted out the fire. My concern is that if a steam charter up Shap cannot be guaranteed to keep the path it is given much more often than not, then NR will start pathing them from loop to loop to minimise risk. Or worse, they won't trust steam to do the job. And that's not really in anyone's interest.

The cupboard is rather bare when it comes to available motive power for this series of trains. 46115 has not, as yet, had a long period of dependability and 45699 is still too fresh from the shops. A Black Five double heading for insurance would be costly but would perhaps be the best option until the Jubilee has settled down.
We do not need delays on the mainline to be caused by our locomotives, there are enough people managing in NR who see steam as being unreliable. And all too frequently it is perception that counts - truth takes second place. Events like this do not help gain repeat business either. Late, cold and uncomfortable. You pay good money for the privilege.

Excellent production as usual Stephen; the pass at Newbiggin was splendid, with a well captured soundtrack.

Shame about the other clowns who abandoned their cars at Shap Wells, they really don't fit in with the landscape there. They have probably forgotten what their legs are for, shameless and selfish.

Thanks for going out on such a moody day to record the events. A pity for the train operators with the problems that they had to endure. Many thanks for sharing.

    Cheers

    Alan

Well up to standard Stephen considering the weather, I was up at Stockber but Baron Elliott rang to say it was running late so I gave up

I would imagine that additional delay will pathing to allow for the 'turn-back DMU' at Clitheroe, once you get out of your path down that branch, you have to 'fit in' with the scheduled passenger services..nothing too sinister...

Well done for sticking out there Phil, I star in the Scout Green shot, if you stop it at 1.48 you can see 3 people on the other bank, I'm the one on the right... I also see that the regulars are there again, under the bridge at Ais Gill summit 2.53 ....

Fabulous footage and well chosen locations. A dire day with the weather, which can certainly take away the "enjoyment" factor of a day by the lineside, so, many thanks for you and Mark for turning out to capture the action. I understand that there will be sun shining on the fells one day later this year!! many thanks for sharing.

    cheers

    Alan

Mmm not looking so good for Galatea today :( From those videos its clear she developed a classic LMS bits of pison ring in the shut off valves post Carlisle, a leak on the right hand cylinder has re-appeared and the aforementioned injector issue. It's a shame as sshe seemed so sorted on her test run last month. Hopefully they are all short term issues that can be sorted (again) by the staff at WCRC.
