You are correct in saying that 2 Jubilees were rebuilt with type 2A boilers. They can't be described as Royal Scot boilers because 5735 Comet & 5736 Pheonix, were rebuilt before any Royal Scots were converted. The 2A boiler was a development of the No 2 Boiler as fitted to 6399/6170 (Fury/British Legion). 5735/6 were rebuilt because of the poor reputation the 5XP's had at the time. Future improvements to the Type 3A boiler and Draughting, meant that original proposals to convert all of the 5XP's were not cost effective. By 1943 the original Royal Scot boilers were at the end of their useful lives. The decision was made to rebuild all of the Scots with 2A boilers as fitted to 5735/6. The same boiler was also used to rebuild 18 of the straight boilered Baby Scots (Patriots). Perhaps it's a shame they didn't convert all the 5XP's to bigger boilers, or that 5735/6 never lived to fight on.

What time did you get back Paul? I'm on the 1st March run and with all that has happened last October and then now I must admit to being a bit apprehensive! No Scot, probably, no 70013 so jolly old Galatea I guess. Good report by the way.

Leave it up for ETH - warm coaches and less for Galatea's boiler to worry about ;)

Without falling off the trail a bit here, but apart from a couple of 'drags' I've seen between steam and some EMU's in Glasgow, has there ever been a case of steam and an AC locomotive double heading/rescue opertions? Bit of a rarity....

If Saturdays performance is anything to go by it would need pushing!

That was the purpose if suggesting it was on the back. Heating too.
Better bet is put an assisting steam loco like 45305 from the original pool.

Seriously though, the 86 is pretty useless as an assisting loco owing to a lack of overheads via Appleby :D

Peter I got home at 1.30am. I was worried at one time that I might miss the last tube and have to get a night bus, but we had a good run south of Rugby.Got down to the Victoria line platform and a tube arrived within 30 seconds, train to Three Bridges departing in 10 minutes when I arrived a Victoria. An enjoyable but very long day.

You might have an A4 for the 1st March run, since the Great Gathering ends the previous weekend.

I don't think it's ever happened in preservation. In November 1998, 6024 worked from Leeds to Kings Cross with 86241 on the rear of the train (with pantograph down) - that's probably as close as we've come.

45407 had a class 90 as a tailgunner on a charter that went over the Cross City line some years ago, from memory I think it was a Pathfinder train that went in some bizarre figure of 8 like routing.
