The main thing is to get it back on passenger duties first, put some mileage in, raise some cash, then head for the big railway. For one thing, I don't want to miss this beauty...

Great news about a much missed engine. This and the return of the S160 surely puts the Worth Valley in the strongest motive power position it's been in for quite some time.

Nor me. Lovely engine. She ran with a high-sided tender during the 1950s when a regular on the Golden Arrow. It would be lovely to see her at the head of the VSOE pullmans one day!

Very much so, always a great performer on the main line in the 80s. I can't recall any of the performance issues that have bedevilled Tangmere on and off.

Not unless it gets fitted with air braking. Not sure if that is on the agenda.

I doubt it. With the majority of main line work now operated by WCRC I'd have thought it would be dropped in the "continuous improvement" file at best. Suspect VSOE work likely to pass to Braunton and / or Tornado once Clan Line retires for her next lie down.

Casting my memory back a few years, I'm sure that I read that an enthusiast left some money in his will that was evenutally partitioned four ways between four locos that had run on the main line, one from each of the four companies. 6024 was one beneficiary, and the money went towards its water carrier. The other three locos were to be fitted with air braking. The LMS beneficary was, I think, 6201, and the Southern engine was 34092 (Can't remember what the LNER loco to benefit was) This was some years ago, and things do change, but I have assumed that 34092 will be air-brake fitted when it returns to action. However, I'm more than willing to be corrected.

Presume he means the 6024 one, being air only and looking like it belongs behind a 66 in a freight might have something to do with it mind, that said only VT use one with any regularity and they have their own, I seem to recall it extended 6024's range on one fill to over 200 miles so presumably isn't the lightest thing fully laden either, difficult to get a good balance between range and weight, but a GUV with another 3000 gallons seems to work well.

City of Wells.. nothing, but it relates to the post about it's beneficiaries wishes of which 34092 is one.

Wonder if she'll be on display with the crimson and cream Bulleid carriage the VCT have at Ingrow West? A 1950s-condition loco paired with 1950s-liveried carriage by the same designer. It can't get much better than that (other than a full rake of Bulleid carriages with Tavern Car).

In fairness, I'm from Scarborough and when I was a kid I used to pronounce 'Keighley' as in 'Minogue'. :)
