Does anyone have the full video of the Bradford Residential, climbing slowly out of Bradford in January 2006, hauled by 45407? Over- edited versions are on YouTube, lasting a min or two but, the whole climb would have been much longer. It ranks as one of the greatest feats in main line steam, I would have thought, in terms of power and spectacle.

Do you mean this? But you have to live with the music until the author removes it!

Ye gods, why has he ruined a superb clip with that awful music? Sounds suspiciously like Captain Beefheart and he is most certainly not as nice to listen to as a Black 5.

Worked on the relay of both tracks on that stretch in the mid 90s.
Gradient is 1 in 50 throughout from the junction to just before Bowling Tunnel.

It would be nice if a tour ran again to recreate such scenes. Was this the last tour there?

I was on that and it was the most nerve wracking time as we slogged up the bank on the verge of stalling for most of the way... Epic.

There was a further trip into exchange a couple of years later , but it came down the bank and then was dragged out(with the 5 at the rear) by a diesel to Leeds, i stood at the top of the bank over the entrance to bowling tunnel on the first occasion and it was an amazing sight watching the 5 slog its way up.

Just on the weekend, I showed my brother video footage taken on my Sony non-digital camcorder (use tapes) and it captures all of magic of that train. What is more, I was on it and recorded it from the right hand (offisde) window of the second coach!! Even more impressive is that it was not and has not been edited from the moment it struggles out of the station to way up the bank - some 7 minutes of uninterrupted footage.

Problem is, how do I get it from tape onto here. I use a Flip HD video or Smart phone now and I regularly download clips under the name Becky Hales (my daughter set it up!!!).

I think it is possible to transfer the footage on to a CD and then it will be easy to download onto You Tube. Any other ideas?

What I guarantee you is one of the most breathtaking climbs of any bank ever!

    Nick

    Yes, let's have it, please!
There are several ways of transferring from video tape to digital format. Which you use depends on what equipment you have, or can beg, borrow or steal. I use a digital 8 camcorder, which can play video 8 and hi-8 tapes directly or can accept analogue video input from any external source such as a VHS player. The camcorder generates a real-time digital video signal which I then capture on a computer.

Just after the loco passes the camera, the vehicle at the back of the train starts pouring out lots of smoke or steam. What was that all about?
