I think the "new" box was a spare built at the same time as the locos.
Part of the box from Gordon you are referring to was used on 90775 I believe at its last overhaul.

Maybe there's concern that engine(s) left mouldering in Turkey might go for scrap, in which case selling this one to Israel, and getting another out of Turkey, might make some sense?

How many 8F's are still in Turkey, Iraq and posibly Egypt?

I think my Uncle may have seen the sunken ones when he went deep sea diving once.

Four are still listed in Turkey, 2 preserved(sic) at Camlik and Alesehir, 1 also stored at Alesehir and 1 awaiting scrapping at Cankiri. I don't know if anyone has seen the Iraqi one since Gulf War 1. Egypt? - don't think so. Ray.

The new firebox fitted to Gordon came from Longmoor at about the time Gordon arrived on the S.V.R.

It runs in my mind that one came back from Greece along with the two locos. I seem to remember seeing it at Ropley. However, I'm far from certain and memory can play strange tricks as you get older!

I don't think so. There is still a new steel inner firebox for this type of loco on the SVR believed ex Longmoor but as I recall it a repair was done using a complete inner and outer box some years ago - believed ex Greece?.

Wonder if this is the one I think I saw at Ropley (see my earler post).

Very interesting stuff and the loco greats especially after the way it looked at Southampton eariler in the thread.

As for the other Turkish 8F. According to Steam Railway the owner is planning on selling it.

You are joking, right? It's not April 1st yet!
It's shot on a quadcopter drone or similar with with what is likely a gopro camera, not CGI :)

I would seriously doubt you except the cat looked real. Must be really early morning, the skies are clear and blue but there are no shadows

As std tank mentioned in post 40 on this thread, the question of a Turkish 8F boiler/firebox unit for ex-Barry 44901 has gone very quiet.

I assume no-one has an update?

If the plan did fail, I guess we can all think of one person who would gladly take the rest of 44901 into stock........
