Midland Railway - Butterley Steam Event - 7th - 9th March

    The Midland Railway - Butterley's Winter Steam Event will be taking place from the 7th - 9th March 2014.

    Attractions over the weekend should include:
    Special timetable in operation
    Official opening of Swanwick Junction Footbridge
    Steam hauled services along our Swanwick Colliery branch line
    Demonstration goods train in operation
    Out of service Steam Locomotives on display outside

    Ivatt Class 2MT - 46521 - will be visiting for the event courtesy of the Great Central Railway and Loughborough Standard Locomotives Group Ltd.

    Charters will feature both passenger and freight stock and all proceeds go to the Midland Railway Centre . Weekend evening floodlit photoshoot at Swanwick with (subject to usual caveats) short parcels train . 2-3 variations during the evening

    Evening shoot £30 (£25 if a day shoot booked as well)
    Day shoots £45 each - Numbers limited to 25

    Sadly, after testing Castle Donington yesterday, a fault with the main steam pipe has been discovered, which means the locomotive is now not available for use. She will be on static display however.

    With this in mind, I've updated the shuttle times with 1163.

    I thought the purpose of a footbridge was to allow passengers to get from one platform to another, rather than as a photographic vantage point.

    This looks like a good event.

    Anyone using the M1 to get to the event should be advised that there is a long stretch on both sides of the motorway restricted to 50mph. It extends southwards from Woodall services to Junc 29 and from Junc 28 northwards to Woodall services so allow extra time for journeys.
