Would avoid the issue they had last year. City of Truro was due to attend but pulled out but it was still on the paper timetable they gave you at the door.

True, but its quite fun not knowing what going to turn up..................... I did the SVR ASG last year, and by the time I turned up it wasn't worth shelling out for the WTT with allocations, so made my experience a lot different! :)

Maybe the MHR (or any other line for that matter) "might" consider doing it once in a while..................................... and make it "just like the good old days"..............................

Until you've experienced it, think again! ;)

What a good point! At the end of the day most people are there all day (so will see everything anyway) and it will also mean each day could be different if people wish to go multiple days??

    Why?????????????????

Like you I'm an enthusiast, and as I said, instead of knowing what due to turn up, you have a sense of expectation in stead........................................... hey ho, each their own....

Why, thank you kind Sir! :)

It would certainly add an extra something to a gala!

What about when your out photographing and you don't know what's coming and you want to move from point A to point B you could miss a good photo opportunity.

But galas aren't for photographers, we are just a bunch of freeloaders who give nothing back to the railway!;):D
Apart from in the case of Dave Lee and Me volunteering, buying stuff and putting the odd tenner in the collection boxes, giving money to specific appeals, submitting pictures to the MHN and external mags (OK we get paid for the last one if pics are printed!)

But seriously, I would like to know when Braunton is running, seeing Bodmin sitting in the platform at Alresford has really wetted my appetite for some rebuilt Bulleid action

I know Mr Southern, my post was an attempt at sarcasm, but I'm not very good with emoticons:)
Most phototographers I know either do the same as you or shoot in the morning and travel in the afternoon, or aw working volunteers. With so few easily accessible spots on the Mid Hants where a) the light is favourable and b) locos are working - particularly those facing out of Alton, it is a real lottery to turn up with a camera without some basic idea of loco allocations. With Clan Line Braunton and Wadebridge all facing the "right" way, the mornings will be the time to take photos, although late afternoon glinty shots up around Wanders Curve will be a real possibility

It's not really that hard to work out without an allocation. Turn up and see what's there, whatever you haven't seen for the longest is probably what's due next.

I note that there are practically no double headers - somebody's been listening ;)

While it's a shame about the 5, it's still a mouth-watering lineup - the weather looks vaguely decent, here's to a good weekend! I'll be around all weekend, so might bump into one or two of you! :)

Anyone know how the 34046 and 35028 moves are going? Just looked at the Real time operations and 34046's move from Southall to Stewarts Lane comes up as :
"This service was cancelled between Southall Loco Services Ltd and Stewarts Lane T&R.S.M.D due to a problem with the schedule (QA)."

However, the second part of the trip from Stewarts Lane to Voltaire Rd and back to SL has departed 23 minutes early. So is 35028 on her own?

34046 is currently at Stewarts Lane - the MNLPS tweeted a photo of '46 at SL a bit earlier.
