I hear on the grapevine that this may be hauled by 45699 rather than 46115.

I don't mind which one as I have not been behind either before. Weather is booked, sadly no sun. Looking forward to it after last years succession of cancelled trips.:)

33 late leaving Hellifield, 40 late Garsdale and currently somewhere around Lazonby, according to RTT.
    (arrived Hellifield on time)

Timeless pictures - looks good with red engine and maroon stock. I guess you must have been standing by the field barn, I was another 100 yards away to the north east (on the higher ground with no shelter from the cool breeze!). The sound was just what you want from a Jubilee but progress, although fine, was just a bit too slow for the full roar.

Lovely, WCRC seem to have finally got to grips with the leaky drain cock issue, the pride of Mr. Smiths stud are starting to put in some consistently good performances, I just hope 'Galatea' can regain its crown as " One of the best" (Jubs) as described by Gav Morrison in 'Devonian'-from the footplate, by Stephen Austin, even though she wasn't a Holbeck engine !

Steam Dreams tweeted that it was a points failure at Hellifield that caused the delay.

A photo of Galatea waiting to depart Hellifield. Delayed due to points failure. She was looking good, and according to an ex BR fireman watching her depart, she sounded good.

Also at Hellifield at the same time was 61994 The Great Marquess - heading for Keighley I understand; they passed just north of the station. A photo of 61994 has been added - get two for the price of one!

Galatea headed for the Long Drag 5 March 2014

The exploits of Royal Scot 4-6-0 No 46115 Scots Guardsman on last Saturday's Winter CME have been well recorded in words, photos and videos. They inspired me to take a trip to Hellifield, to see it hook up to the first Cathedrals Express over the S&C since Steam Dreams returned to West Coast as its train provider.

First surprise was to see Stanier 4-6-0 No 45699 Galatea puff gently into the station rather than the Green Giant. Still, a Stanier Jubilee is always a welcome sight, even though a green one would be even better.

I watched it shunt round the station then headed to Settle station to see it starting into the climb to Blea Moor. It was half an hour late, and in that time the sun vanished under thick grey cloud. But Galatea made a stirring sight and sound as it charged into the hills.

Yes - that was me - right in the corner of the walls next to the right side of the fence, in front of the barn - and still the wind went through me
