Thanks so much. At last, the climb in full. That must rank as one of the greatest climbs in main line steam, I would have thought. Only Hemerdon April 1985, with 4930 and 7819 comes close, along with some of the Talerddig climbs and, the Hall after dark on the Lickey, with a 57XX banking.

As others have said, it is odd that it hasn't been repeated, I would be on board for sure. If the layout still allows, how about 2 departures side by side, as happened in BR days, 1 for Scarborough and 1 for say, Blackpool!

YouTube has many good untouched steam clips but, also many both British and foreign, that are edited so much, it hardly seems worth bothering to upload them. Does the PSOV DVD have the full monty at Bradford, as they are sometimes a bit edit trigger happy as well.

no, the psov is very short, shown just out of the station then leaving bowling tunnel. I decided to let the camera run and not use any zoom to show the extent of the climb. Glad u like it. Also, the layout in the station throat and the leeds line has been altered, so not sure it could be done as in the 60's

According to Ian Riley, steam excursions are a 'no-no' now out of Bradford, whether this is due to the re modeling of the station throat I don't know, but at a glance this is now much easier and would be a straight pull, instead of having to negotiate a double cross over, which was the main reason for the difficult start as seen above, due to the rolling resistance. As I am not a contributor to any other forum's, would it be possible for someone to ask Mr. Riley what the reason is ?

The one I rate with these or even better was the climb up the Luxulyan Valley with 13 on by 48773and 45110 in absolutely foul conditions and having to restart the train on the bank after a fallen tree was cleared and a second restart after running out of sand and the having to replenish the sanders. As far as I know no video exists of this due to really dire conditions but Chris Jennings posted a sound recording made on the train which is well worth a listen.
The wind was force 10 and even GW die hards said it was a good job LMS locos were on it for the protection of the crews.
It's definitely one I will not forget in a hurry.

    Cheers Dave

I do remember speaking to the driver at our first station stop at I believe Accrington (could be wrong), and I swear he said "I gave her everything I had, there was no more!". When I download my footage from the train, you really will appreciate the sincerity of his words, because there was no more to give. Thank God 45407 kept her feet. Restarting on the bank would have not been possible, I fear.

The real problem on was on the cross overs, she only just kept moving, but when freed from the shackles she starts to accelerate immediately, granted it was steady but never the less it was clear & audible acceleration, I honestly doubt there was any chance of her stalling once fully on the bank,as for a restart, I concur.

Further to the above: it might be of interest that one of Maplin's current cut-price offers is kit for transferring analogue video to digital: see http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/honestech-vhs-to-dvd-deluxe-a06jr
Although described as "VHS to DVD" the description makes clear that (as might be expected) it's also suitable for uploading to YouTube.

I was there that day to watch it, damn miracle it made it but it did, 5407 was on the uphill gradient before it turned a wheel. I honestly thought it would stall, it took a long time and the, very gradually. it picked up.

Use of Carrier pigeons has declined inversely proportionate to the consumption of Curry in Bradford...
Cross town rail link, another opportunity wasted....
