Well done the Strathspey.... A railway in the "outback" getting on with doing their thing, dont get the publicity that they rightly deserve whilst other railways get publicity whilst they are just really "playing trains" with rich sugar daddies....

So sad John Morley didn't get to see this moment. His contribution to the railway was huge, :(

Care to qualify which lines have rich "sugar daddies?"

Happens a lot in railway preservation - and other fields - I'm afraid. All the rest of us can do is keep on working to achieve things on the behalf of those who have passed on.

So making a contentious statement even without naming names isn't going to cause an argument? I should think volunteers on each and every heritage railway would take issue with you.

Quite, anyone that's been anywhere near any kind of volunteer organisation that involves preservation would probably testify to that. Very passionate people. You have to be to show the level of commitment necessary.

I know, and something those involved accept I guess, as they live through the experiences of losing others over the years

Why should I name names?....Its my personal view and I stated that from the outset...If you cant handle that people are entitled to their own personal opinions then tough!

Anyway ..this thread is about the success of the Strathspey and so lets keep it there

Without quantifying your statement the post is irrelevant and pointless.

Now as asked return to the successful thread and well done to them all involved, another step closer to the final goal.

the bridge abutments are truly splendid, what an act of vandalism to remove the deck in the first place!
What plans are they to make the deck fit in with the stonework, the beams look a little stark at the moment.

My, my, we're throwing a little paddy. As for the thread being about the success of the Strathspey - and well done to all concerned - you started to drag it off thread with your remark about "sugar daddies" and "playing trains." Those remarks are quite frankly an insult to the countless volunteers on heritage railways across the land - personal opinion or not.

Old photos show the old bridge with open-lattice reticulated beams which, if left in place would be rotten by now. The new beams could have been painted a different colour to blend in with surroundings, olive drab for instance.
The Strathspey Rly may however be considering letting the outer beam webs as advertising space such as 'Vote YES at the Referendum' on one side of the bridge and 'NO' on the other..

I suppose the beams could be painted to resemble lattice work. My point was the bridge would have been better looking even with rotten lattice beams had the line never been mooted for re-opening.

Have a look at the Spey Bay viaduct for a fix; that has plenty of lattice work :)
