Just to be pedantic, the agreement with JB ends in August, not September.

Do you really think JB wants to start paying the MHR money for his loco's sitting there doing nothing, rather than the way it is now?

No they'll be gone before the agreements up!...............................

All I stated was when the agreement ends not what JB might do. I have my opinions, but I am certainly not going to share them on a forum. The only known facts at present are that Bodmin has left and the rest will also leave. Anything else is speculation until it is confirmed by action or an announcement from the man himself.

The Mid Hants reputation for having locos named after places on other peoples railways is now sadly diminished :)

Is it waiting for the lorry returning from Bury 45379 perhaps?

It looks like one of the S15 Boilers. It was still there on Friday (7th) with cylinders from 30506 sitting on the end of the wagon (just in front of the 08 Shunter in your picture).

I think that's the boiler that was on 30506 when she came from Barry. It was previously thought to be uneconomic to repair, but now however it might be cheaper to overhaul than the boiler that was fitted as a replacement!

It is the boiler that has been on 506. It is possibly going to be on 499 in the future as it may be cheaper to overhaul than the boiler that was on 499 (there are three boilers and two chassis). The boiler for 506 which will be fitted during THIS overhaul is basically complete in the boiler shop. It is at an advanced stage where work will be paused until the chassis repair is nearing completion and then tubed. If it were tubed now it would effectively start the clock which is undesirable given the scale of the frame repairs needed, and therefore the uncertainty about the completion date for 506.

For those wondering....506 was found to have cracks and severe wastage of the frames behind the cylinders which have now been removed. The new plates (on hand) now need to welded to the old, and all the holes drilled for the cylinder, buffer beam and stretcher rivets and fitted bolts, whilst maintaining the alignment. Same job as Bittern received. I guess it will be another 18months before we could possibly see 506 complete. Fingers crossed though that both the Ivatt tank and 76017 will be running around the turn of this year.

If anything the Mid Hants has a surplice of motive power at the moment! With the amount of locos they own/have access to it is a case of one new one coming out of the works every year to ensure things keep ticking over.

The year 2016 sees nelson go out of ticket & wadebridge in early 2016.

Does anyone have any idea what the likily outcome will be for 850? her boiler was vertually renewed when she was last overhauled,, so i would hope another ticket might not be too expensive, but would she be likily to return to the main line? i hope that she does not, more people can see her where she is and a rover ticket is still cheaper than a railtour ticket, or on the other hand, who knows, might York want to put her back on display and release 33001 so she can have another active spell, then of course there is 34051, are ropley secretly carrying out a full overhaul, and not telling anyone, so that in 2016, she appears in steam:))))))

We expect 850 to last to 2016 possibly a tad longer depending on the insurance company view at the time. I hope that 850 will continue to be based at the MHR for the next overhaul and beyond. What else we may or may not take on custody of on behalf of the NRM is a matter that needs to be looked at with them.

We're not secretly overhauling 34051. 34105 will suffice.

We do have a fair number of locos at present. 2016 could be a bumper year though with 925, 850, 41312, 76017, 92212, 45379, 34105 (maybe), 30506 (probably). I feel sure I have missed one too!

Not forgetting No.1 - the 'Blue thing' and I think it is 34007's last year as well before overhaul?
On another note it states that 34058 'Sir Frederick Pile' is under Overhaul? Has work commenced on her then?
