Thanks to Nat Pres I noticed this gala and enjoyed a weekend at Lulworth.
Rally driving from t wife saw me JUST catch the T9 to Norden on sat am and the launch of the superbly restored carriages +M7. The first class was so good I didn't want to leave them . Travelling with the restorers taught me a lot about the complexities and cost of producing quality SR coaches! Frankly, the 2 coach /30053 combination was incredible.

The T9 failure was sad but enabled a healthy walk on the cliffs. I hope today was good fun and my gratitude to Swanage Rly.

Ps I enjoyed travelling with David(uk steam) and friend and we solved EVERY RTC/mainline steam issue within the hour incl gauging ,diesel shoves, loco updates, the proposed Seaford spl and the meaning of life(42!) with the added assistance of a Drummond exhaust!

Just back from a very enjoyable day - had a full round trip behind the T9 (a new loco for me in steam, despite having seen her at Sheffield Park for many years) and one behind the M7. Have to say, I am impressed with the newly restored Bulleid composite. Comfortable, well restored and a cut above the Mark 1s.

In between, had some time on the beach with the children - mid March, and and it was glorious weather at last after all the dismal winter!

    Some snaps here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamessquared/sets/72157642447430674/

One minor niggle (and nothing to do with the railway). At Norden, there is a very obvious barrier across the end of the platform, as well as a "Passengers must not go beyond this sign" notice. I was standing on the bank behind waiting for the T9 to go past for a photo, and there were four or five other people, mostly I'd say just regular visitors out for an enjoyable day, dutifully waiting for their photo by the barrier. At which point, a chap with serious camera gear walked by, glanced at the sign and proceeded to walk down to the end of the platform, past the barrier. I asked him to move (as he was slap bang in my shot) as did one or two of the others; he just grunted and pretended not to understand and took his mastershot, getting in the way of everyone else and trespassing to boot. Then, once he had his shot, he walked back and gave us all a sheepish wave...

So if you are this man - show a bit of consideration and RTFM!

Well that was a better day! Everything went well, with all trains on time and the set-pieces and turning moves working out spot on. Lots of people around, I'd be very interested in seeing any photos people may have.

    Thanks in advance.

The T9 looked more at home at Swanage than at any other Heritage Railway....

Nice to think one day, some how it could live there again..

Had a great day yesterday. Will upload some shots when I've sorted through what I took.
The T9 looked good but the M7 on the Bulleids looked even better. Pure late 50s/early 60s Swanage branch.

After such an enjoyable day at the gala on Saturday, I decided to drive the 80+ miles to the Swanage Railway once again on Sunday.
The railway couldn't have chosen a better weekend for the weather.

As reported, the T9 had been repaired and all went to plan. Wonderful locos, coaches, stations and scenery.

Thanks to the Swanage Railway for allowing us a trip down memory lane. <BJ>

Spot on weekend, the T9 was superb, looked great on shed with M7, nice also that the locos were not the only stars, the bullied coaches and stations completed the picture, hope the heritage coach restorers build on their success, how about a push for a genuine 3 car bullied set? Thanks to everyone at the Swanage Railway.

I believe the next two coaches to be restored are a couple of Maunsells the two Bulleid coaches are in poor condition and will need a large sum of money to restore them The two restored Bulleids looked stunning behind the M7 yesterday the Swanage railway trust has a fundraising page for the Heritage coach project .

Some great shots, many thanks .

Ian, we must have just missed each other at Corfe with that photo of the M7's ECS working. Although I was RO, I had gone up there to do the shunting for them in order that I could deal with the token after the M7 had run light to Norden.

    Ian,

A very nice selection of photographs. Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful weekend it turned out to be after the mist and fog of the previous week. I was also at Corfe Castle accommodation crossing for the departure of the T9. I was the guy with the video camera mounted on the heavy tripod. <BJ>

So that was you. I was the chap with the large hound. Glad you like the pics. Hopefully 34081 will make a return visit at some stage and I can try out some of those locations again.

Glad you like them. Were you in the gallery at the Bankes Arms car park or were you still on duty at the time?

Still on duty at that point; I was in the cab of the M7 for that one, went up to Norden on the light engine and then back to Swanage on the footplate of the T9. Perks of the job...!

The carriage and wagon guys went up to Norden to survey 1381 the Maunsell open, only to find that someone hand removed all of the brass luggage racks, there was other bits of brass and expensive metal left untouched. Stolen to order? Hope not.

Sorry to hear about the luggage racks more likely to be scrap metal theives as there are not many maunsell coaches around only the Bluebell and Kesr have any the need for a secure carriage shed to store the restored Bulleids is desperately needed.
