Does anyone know whether the planned recreation of the proposed Atlantic Coast Express is still going ahead during the main spring gala event or not, if it is which engine will be hauling it.

The WSR website doesn't say it's not going ahead, so presume it is - details here:

    http://westsomersetrailway.vticket....g-steam-gala/661a5e866f206b59011d43ef19241e75

The loco allocations are usually published officially in the Spring Steam Gala guide which you will have to buy - unless you know someone who will give you the info for free!

Can't help with the Gala diagrams but the following may be of interest:-

Subject to 7828 having returned successfully from its visit to the Severn Valley’s Gala the planned workings for Wednesday March 26th are as follows:-

34007 “Wadebridge” will head the 10.25 (non-stop) from Minehead, the 12.40 from Bishops Lydeard and the 15.05 from Minehead.

SDJR 88 has the 11.10 stopper from Minehead to Williton and the 12.10 return to Minehead before running light engine to Washford, leaving Minehead at 13.50.

7828 is due to head the 10.25 from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, the 12.25 from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, the 14.15 from Bishops Lydeard double heading with 4160, and the 16.40 from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard.

6960 “Raveningham Hall” has a non-stop run from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard at 14.25 and goes back on the 16.10 from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead.

“Kilmersdon” is due to leave Washford for a light engine move to Minehead at 16.30.

In past experience, I arrive home from the SVR the proceeding Saturday to find it has been delivered in that day's post.

Thanks for the posts above, saying there's a 'Steam Gala Guide' available for purchase, which I've now ordered.

Must say they're not that easy to find, I've been checking the Book Now tabs for quite a while, they're right at the bottom of the previous page if anyone else is looking.

I'm thinking of attending on the Saturday. Where do 5322 and 31806 start the day, MD or BL?

  12. John Simms, WSR's Publicity Officer writes: "Some visitors to the WSR and linesiders have asked why the paint schemes for 34007 “Wadebridge” and the tender accompanying it here on its visit to the WSR do not match. The answer is simple. The regular tender is under repair. Meanwhile the Souvenir Programmes for the Gala arrived from the printers this morning. Those ordered in advance went out in the afternoon post and the supplies for the stations will reach them as the 10.15 from Minehead makes its way along the line on Saturday a.m. Price of the programme is £3 over the station counters. " Thanks for the update, JS.

After looking forward to the WSRs 'Atlantic Coast Express' gala, I have to say that I'm a
little disappointed after studying the timetable and loco roster.
As an example, on Sunday, 30th there are just 8 trains in each direction.
For followers of southern steam, 31806 heads a train in the morning but then sits
it out for well over three hours before it's return. One round trip, the day is over.
34007 'Wadebridge' also covers one round trip completing the Bulleid action at 15:14.
34070 'Manston' has a midday departure hauling just one train in one direction only!!
This is just my opinion of course. I'm sure that others may disagree. <BJ>

So is the loco roster on their website? I'm notorious for missing the obvious, but can't spot it there!

The loco roster forms part of the gala souvenir programme. I gave the link on Thursday. <BJ>

  16. By far the best option is to get the souvenir programme. But...

There is an abbreviated loco roster (as always) at www.wsr.org.uk/lroster.htm This does not tell you which locos are on which trains but it does tell you what locos are rostered per day and from where their day starts. Hits on the front page always welcomed :)

    Steve,

I fear that on certain days you've forgotten to include 34070 'Manston'.
If that doesn't run the event will become the 'Withered Gala' weekend. <BJ>

I have not recieved my programme yet so have been unable to look at the roster, but this sounds like the WSR! That's 5 of 16 diagrams there, less than a third with three quarters of the guests. Don't tell me.. 4160 does two rounds trips?!

I don't understand why railway's hire locos in and have them sit around. At the SVR they hired in 7828 to let her sit on Bridgnorth shed from 1238 to 1515 Friday & Saturday, then just do one round trip Sunday, 7812 did more! The diagram for 1638 was worse with no workings between 0934 and 1215. Crazy.

''Don't tell me.. 4160 does two rounds trips?!''

On Sunday, there is one departure from Bishops Lydeard with 31806, one departure with 34007 but NO departures with 34070!!
LSWR loco 4160 will have two departures. <BJ>
