Ok. Provided that in the process we don't lose the humour and insights that people north of a certain line in the country seem better at providing than those south of it.

And, back to the thread, I trust that the arrival of Braunton north of Watford did help to prove to those who have never experienced the novelty before that an ex SR loco is capable of going from A to B without dropping a smokescreen over the countryside, sitting down on a hill or leaving pieces of itself on the track.

Wake up at the back there. 34046's foray to Derbyshire isn't the first time we've had SR power north of Watford or did you miss 34092's residency on the S&C? (Other Bulleids are available) :)

Bulleids were designed for hill climbing. Its only when they are brought to a stop on a slope that you run the risk of 'sitting down', which is very much the same as any other 'Pacific'.

Crikey - that was when the S&C didn't have TSRs all along it. Too long ago to remember. Next thing you'll be doing is reminding us when a MN went over Shap!

Oh right, so all Southerners are humourless and have no insight? Hardly a conciliatory comment now is it.

EDit, Oh and I paid over 15 quid for cod and chips in Whitby. (mind that did include mushy peas, Bread and Butter, and a bottle of ale)

Or a WC over Druimuachdar. :)
But if you want something a bit more recent, 34027 over Shap in March 2000.

Presumably you went into the Magpie Cafe then? Should have followed the locals down to the pier and gone to the Quaterdeck - finest F&C's in town and half that price :)

Ditto for 35028 in 2000 over Stoke at 67 starting out of Peterborough. But this is history and apart from the mixed exploits of Tangmere, there has been a dearth of Southern motive power up north in recent times - hence the original post. Braunton was therefore a welcome change and as things are going with the Britannias at present and crazy gauging matters, she may be out and about quite a lot this year.

Sorry if it has been stated on another thread but what is up with 70000 at the moment? Wondered if she is going to be available for the 19th April Dartmouth Express. Or might we get 34046 for this run instead?

It was stated somewhere that she had "axle problems" and thus 34046 replaced her on the Peak Forester.

And that see might not be available for the Great Britain VII.

I'm assuming that 70000 will be out of action for April given what has been hinted about GBVII so unless we get a guest appearance of Clan Line on the Kingswear trip I'm hoping that we will be getting Braunton instead.
