With regards to 43106, the rear drag box wasn't replaced when she was restored in 2008. When it was replaced at the beginning of the year. It required the boiler to be lifted and the opportunity was taken to reset the clock and gain 4 years on the boiler ticket.

Ian Riley has certainly proved its possibly the best way. Certainly spreads the rising costs of overhauling locos.

75069's condition hasn't been helped by its storage conditions. It's now known even the use of a tarp helps considerably.

Any loco that is going to be stored in the open long term should have its boiler lagging removed. Otherwise water gets in and it just acts as a sponge, keeping the boiler permanently wet.

I suppose 75069 would be called the last of the "pre-Engine House" out of ticket stored loco's.

However isn't 42968 temporarily outside at Bridgnorth?

Unfortunately that is not the case as pre engine house both 4930 & 7819 were stored outside for an appreciable period before being made to look presentable for more recent display. The full effects of this will only be known at stripdown time.
More recent withdrawals from service including most if not all current EH inmates have not suffered in this way & are stored in the best possible conditions well away from the elements but also away from cold condensation ridden sheds where gradual rotting still takes place.

Yes, she is, but she is under a tarpaulin, and won't be outside for too long anyway.

1472: Thanks for that correction about storage. I was trying to recall which "Manor" it was--in BR black-- that was stored in the north-end headshunt at Highley for some years gathering green algae and general dotritus.

Stiill, a better situation going foreward, and whether one likes the EH or not, it is keeping our out of ticket engines clean and dry...thankfully.

As an aside, I wonder where "Hinton Manor", currently at Swindon, figures in the overhaul queue?

7819 is somewhere in the list, much like 4930 was. Money is slowly being raised by the charitable trust.

At the moment she is safe, secure, not deteriorating any further and well away from the elements.

New tyres for the driving wheels are in store after being purchased last year.

Last chance to get a trip or two behind 5643 and Kinlet Hall over the next week. 5643 is booked to run Thursday & Friday (potentially also over the weekend), before departing by road soon after - I'm unsure as to whether it is heading straight to the Bluebell or whether it is making a trip home first? 4936 also leaves the railway next week for Tyseley. There will be many at the SVR sad to see it leave.

5164 is also to be withdrawn following next weekend's services. Unknown as yet whether she will definitely run over the weekend, but a last chance to see her for a while nonetheless...

Well, as this hasn't been updated for a while, I thought I would do a little one.
Well, 4936 has wintered on the Valley and will be appearing at the Spring Gala and hasn't got any work booked elsewhere for a while so it might be around for a bit
34053 had an incident on New Year's day and still being repaired. From february's monthly round up, the expected return is April.
4566 is being re-painted in BR black currently.

Just adding to the above, work continues on the firebox of 34027, 42968 continues to be stripped for overhaul, boiler cladding has recently been removed, work on 7802 continues at TYS, with the boiler being worked on at Bridgnorth. A Lottery grant has been awarded for the overhaul of 4930, so presumably work on that loco can start soon. In the interim whilst waiting for the outcome of the Lottery application, work has concentrated on the tender that is to be paired with 4930. A swap took place with another "Hall" so that each loco had the correct tender, as issued. Students and pupils from the SVR's Heritage Skills & training Academy will be involved with the overhaul of the latter locomotive.

As reported elsewhere (SVRA forum and a NBI), subject to final confirmation 73129 will be visiting the valley for the summer. It is expected to arrive late april/early may.
