    I don't think so, it's when the tender is leading that the restriction applies, I have know several instances when the driver of the loco doing the hauling, in this case a diesel, spoke to the driver of the steam loco at the back and asked him what was the appropriate speed, not putting a figure on it but it was over 45 each time.

    When a loco is being dragged tender first, the tender should behave the same as when the loco is leading. Either way, the tender will be being hauled rather than pushed.

    *Edit - I know RTT doesn't have an option for steam, and so it says diesel hauled at the top, but the second leg of the journey is timed to 95mph which would imply diesel haulage. There are separate paths to Plymouth and Truro, which I assume are 5029 and 34046? Can anyone confirm?

    Schedule set at 61 mins from Exeter to Plymouth. Even with two locos that's a little tight. I also had the impression that steam was to come off at Plymouth whereas now the train passes straight through. Let's hope that RTT produce an update to the present timings. <BJ>

    At the present time it looks like diesel haulage from Exeter onwards, a second path is also in from Exeter SD-St Blazey via the triangle at Plymouth

    That is what Ray said was the plan , but with Braunton needing to be turned ( At Norton Fitzwarren) and serviced that would require a stopover in Exeter of approx 4 hours, add 1/2 hour for longer path to Plymouth ,1/2 hour change from Steam to diesel that would mean 10.00pm arrival at Truro.

    Sadly,the revised plan is diesel Exeter to Truro but there is steam Falmouth to Bristol on the Sunday
    The only advantage is being able to have a full evening in Falmouth in daylight. However,we would all have preferred steam ALL the way. Paul42 is right. The time taken to turn at NF would have taken a long time in addition to the need for locos to return to Plymouth to turn (with associated hours issues). NP members can prob guess how much effort was expended with various versions to enable steam both ways into Cornwall. Loco availability was the final straw,perhaps.
    Still steam Falmouth to Kyle/Mallaig even if we don't get Exeter to Cornwall .I'm on throughout!
    Nigel is away at present so no hot news but GB7 still looks good!

    Yes it is, especially as there is a diesel on the back from Salisbury to Exeter. There is absolutely no need for this with load 11 ( 10 + POB)) as Bullied Pacifics took 13 over Honiton day in day out. Day 1 would now seem to be a write off with the bulk of the day being diesel "pushage" or "haulage". I'm sure there will be plenty disgruntled passengers on the train.

    I doubt it, most enthusiasts realise that there are always going to be problems getting things to work to the original outline plan, and they accept it. Once again the diesel is not on the back for fun or to annoy a few passengers, it's there for a reason.

    Day 1. London to Exeter with no loco change. 6 hrs 45 min. No difference from last year, I know, and not the fault of the RTC or WC but boy, that is an eternity. If that's what we are in for on the 'Anniversary' ACE with SD in September then I'll need to take a book.
    How long did the ACE take in 1964 - 3 hours was it?

    Latest update on another forum. 48151 to work Carnforth to Grange over Sands on the Monday. Black 5s come off at Ayr on the return from Stranraer. And double headed Black 5s from Inverness to Aberdeen.

    Does anyone know whether the Stranraer trip will be top and tailed, double headed, or tender to tender?

    Someone told me during a lineside conversation that there is a limit of 45 miles on Network Rail that steam can run tender-first - anything more (such as the Kyle run) requires special dispensation. The Jacobite is just within the limit. I've no idea who I was speaking to, I just thought I'd repeat it here.
