Oh I don't know, I'd give it a go up Shaftesbury Ave at rush hour. Just once mind, I wouldn't fancy doing it daily.:D

If it was a Wilson box on an RT then the answer is yes, otherwise no.

My grandfather owed a Daimler Conquest followed by a Daimler Majestic. Both pre-select I believe.

Good comfortable cars, the basis of the London Ambulance, but - from a friends experience bloody useless brakes. He tried driving his mums car but cable brakes on a heavy car does not make for easy driving. Even the RT bus had better braking, assisted hydrau;ic? . The mechanicals were good but should have adopted hydraulics earlier IMHO

Lanchester introduced the disc brake way ahead of anyone else in the early 20 century and another innovation he introduced was the engine balancer shaft around the same time. The balancer shaft is the reason modern engines are so smooth, in fact I have incorporated one in a machine I am developing due to out of balance forces......

I looked them up on wickapedia and I agree that they were inovative having used hydraulic brakes up to 1935. Why oh why did Lanchester / Daimler revert to mechanical brakes post war? admittedly under new owners

An RT with full air and a treadle type brake pedal would have made life a lot easier for drivers if such had been available at the time.
