No "Easterling" railtour?

hi everyone,

living in witham, essex, i dont encounter much steam on the GEML, but the only regular steam railtour was the Easterling to lowersoft, but it seems this year that the railway touring company is'nt running it this year? or does anyone know any different?

 

I think gauging problems at Liverpool Street has put the kibosh on proceedings for the time being. I was lucky enough to do the 'Norfolkman' in July 2010 (gosh, was it that long ago?), and it really was a special day out. A good route for sustained mile-a-minute running.

 

That is a shame that liverpool st has gauging problems, the GEML is one of the best lines for fast running, its just a shame that railtour companies dont run steam locos along this line as much as other lines.....

 

I have the same problem as you jackshepherd living close to Ipswich its rare that we see any steam passing through, so to get my 'steam fix' I often have to travel quite a distance. Around East Anglia there seem to be quite a few places with gauging problems which seems to restrict/deter railtour companies from running along the line which is a shame. The gauging problems also caused the NNR quite a few headaches recently stopping Sir Nigel Gresley from visiting.

 

yer, i have travelled to get steam. last year i went to ely to get 5043 EARL OF MOUNT EDGUMBE, but its still not as nice as having a steamer run through your home station. we are lucky to get diesel railtours....

 

well, i got the latest RTC brohure, it has NO easterling railtour, so it is either they are not running it this year or it is no longer running???
