None of the DEPG fleet is certified to be dragged on the mainline, i.e. air tanks haven't been certified and ultrasonic axle testing hasn't been done. And putting hydraulics on low loaders is a bit of a no no in case it damages the transmission.

Would be easier for you to visit WSR 6-8 June with 7017,821,832,1010,1015 and probably some of 7828,6960 and 3850.....

Sorry, I don't like this idea at all. It's bad enough having one diesel gala a year, without having them spoil the steam gala as well. I think this would put off more people than it would attract.

Typical, you go out for the day on Sunday, and you come back to find someone has hijacked a Steam thread with talk of boxes................... and bloody ugly ones at that - nowt the cutters torch couldn't put right!!

Anyway, in other news, regarding the STEAM gala, given the speculation on visiting loco's and the mention of 6023................................. well it turned out that yesterday at Didcot I was speaking with the loco manager - and his words, not mine, were that he had no knowledge of any approach/agreement etc, and a la Tornado once fully fit, it will only be going to lines with mainline connections, but he did concede that there could be something going on in the background that he's not aware of.......

Mix traction galas don't work that well. Most diesel cranks won't come because they won't entertain travelling behind steam and the same goes for steam gala enthusiasts that don't like riding behind smokey diesels. Don't forget in September there is a gala penciled in at the MHR. Which I hear made a good amount of profit for the railway last year.

Hardly going to break the bank having to pay £120.00 per day. Knowing what most photographers spend on camera equipment it's small fry to pay.

It's twice what most charters cost. And it's not as if it's a unique opportunity, a rebuilt Bulleid on Mk 1s has been pretty common on the MHR in the past, and will be again in a few years time when 34058 appears.

Doesn't stop at the cost of the charter. Travel to and from the event and sometimes overnight accommodation for those travelling long distances.

Great line up. Not seen 4270 or 6960 before, had 5029 on a double header and be great to see 70000 as 70025.

Hmmm..................................... best get the Brasso in then!

I'm glad the rumours about the Brit are true, will make a most refreshing change! :)

Not seen two out of three of the other visitors, or at least I think so - hard to tell with so many lookalikes knocking about!

NOW if it were to be a LNER themed gala, THAT would be something to get the juices flowing..... ;):):):)

I see the MHR web page has now corrected the unfortunate spelling mistake of 'Cattle Class' to 'Castle Class' :D
