Does anyone know the details of the Hadrian? Times and direction along the Settle & Carlisle would be appreciated. Some sites suggest Northbound, others South. No times on UK mainline steam rail tours or Realtime trains as far as I can see yet.

According to RTC's website, northbound over the S&C, steam hauled from Hellifield onwards. No times anywhere as yet. Locations, Depends whether you are photting or filming, but here's a few northbound to choose from: The Overbridge in Anley Cutting, Settle, Stainforth Sidings, Helwith Bridge, Horton, Selside, Ribblehead, Blea Moor, Garsdale either on the platform or the hillside opposite, Grizedale crossing or Shotlock Hill.

Strange that uksteam shows the tour going the opposite way to RTC's website though no times as mentioned above .

Has the question of 4-axle tenders at Carlisle been resolved, can't remember reading about it anywhere if so? May be superfluous anyway for photting in view of the weather forecast, it's terrible, heavy rain with driving winds.

According to Mr Shuttleworth Platforms 1 and 3 at Carlisle cleared for A4s -- see LE Movements thread.

Indeed because it's quoted as electric traction to York and the A4 is stabled there presently. No logic in steam from Hellifield if both those are correct.

Now there's a conundrum. Do you believe the RTC site who are running the trip or UKSteam?!

I predict it will be anti-clockwise from York. It will be easier to get a path for the Leeds-York section in the evening. No doubt will be proved wrong almost immediately!!

I received my e-ticket for this tour a few days ago, It states they have pleasure confirming it will be steam hauled by No.9 from Hellifield to York via Carlisle. They also state they were unable to arrange a pick up at York on the outward journey and will be ferrying passengers down to Doncaster.

    Times stated on ticket:

    06:32 off Kings X (Ridiculous....!)
    13:56 Carlisle

    15:35 Off Carlisle
    20:15 York
    23:15 Arrival into Kings X

I booked this tour as a treat for my 18th, my first trip with RTC, and travelling To / from Hastings before and after - I'll have to be up by 3:30am, travel by car to London - do the tour, get around 1hr 30mins in Carlisle, and I won't be home until near enough 2am after getting out of London. I fully understand how tours work and the constraints there are, but if I were a passenger who didn't - I'd be fuming at this!

Some times are on the RTC website. Although it says "approcimate timings", the fact that some of them are not on 5 or 10 minutes boundaries is usually a good indication that these are the "actual times".

It is shown as running anti-clockwise in the RTC brochure in front of me. The version at the RTC website is quite different.

I might be wrong David but I think the same blurb was used on the RTC site for both the Hadrian 1 and 2. Of course the Hadrian 1 did run clockwise but that ran up the Midland diesel to Hellifield and then 46115 so that made sense. I suppose Saturday's trip could go York-Leeds via Castleford but I'll stick with my bet. 1535 out of Carlisle feels like southbound on the S and C to me.

Kings Cross - 0720, returning at 2245. I can't think of any occasions when the provisional times on something new haven't then been extended at each end once NR gets to sort out the pathing. As for the Scottish Lowlander in September that is given (provisionally) as 0730 from Crewe returning at 2240, I'm definitely not holding my breath on that one and just hoping for something that starts and finishes on the same day!

And just for the record, the original brochure information had this Hadrian trip going to York and then anticlockwise northbound to Durham, Carlisle and back down the S&C to York, just as shown on UKSteam. But I presume that even with Les Ross this was not going to be possible hence the change on the website to what is actually happening. Worth noting therefore that the RTC site was corrected and up to date. Brownie points all round, therefore.

A 1535 departure from Carlisle southbound over the S&C would have put it directly infront of a service train. Running along the Tyne Valley at that time puts it behind a service train, which makes sense when you think about it.

Thank you Ray, another losing bet. And yes, I don't know the difference between the M-F and Sat timetable on the S and C. Hope the weather is not too bad.

86259 through Sandy roughly right time this morning, with 47237 on the rear. Full rake of maroons, but sadly the rear coach has suffered a graffiti attack, I assume overnight while stabled at Ferme Park.
