Thanks a lot Ian :) I believe I covered around 2,200 miles by rail across all 9 days (technically 8 days as I chased the GB in the car on day 7 from Inverness to the KoL). That said, I made a fair few diversions though for one reason or another, so it was probably closer to 1,800 when chasing. Getting up at 8am on Monday morning for work, having arrived back in from Stevenage just 7 hours earlier was a struggle! :p

Some really lovely photos there from 5944. A portfolio to be very proud of.

Shows the Great Britain part of the tour, not just standard 3/4 front views of the train, (nothing wrong with those shots though).

I was doing my own marathon up there at the same time. But out on the Orkneys after Short-eared Owls and not steam locos. So apart from my long drive North and South to/from Kent where my times did not coincide even with a route change, I was not able to take in the steam trip and get any photos due to the sea getting in the way!

PS. I did think about the trip, especially as I crossed the Cairngorms and stopped by the A9 for one of my brief rest spells on the looooooooong drive, to photo a demu box, ( !!!!!), with snow capped mountains behind it. Thinking what a location to see the steam trip......................

Knowing that Loch Eilt shot, that's a blooming long walk. Easy enough when you're on the Scottish Steam Bash but to do it when you can't ride the train to the location shows real dedication.

Good to meet you on the train and for a talk on the platform at Ayr. You and your wife must have more than a few photos to remind you of GB7. I think you must have both enjoyed it as you both were smiling A LOT!

We would be very interested to hear you report on the full trip Larry, the views of someone who has not really been aware of the steam railtour scene in the UK should make fascinating reading.

If you'll forgive me a couple of non Railway GB VII images, these were taken outside the Hotel at Windermere on the morning of Day 4.

It was around 45 mins walk each way, though not the easiest of terrain. If I do it again I'll take a small inflatable boat and row across the loch! The weather in the afternoon wasn't great, so we decided to go for one nice landscape shot rather than chasing it for a few dull ones.

Like the first one. Here's a couple of mine. Best hotel bedroom view in England?

Certainly the hotel of the trip, and the best bacon I have ever eaten for breakfast. Quite a contrast from the dodgy place in Inverness with a sort of nightclub downstairs and a bouncer on the door!

Waited a fair while for the sun to line up hoping the mist wouldn't thin too much. Rather clichéd perhaps, but I hope in a good way.

That second one of yours is great. I didn't find that spot: wish I had.

Young Mr. Hurst waded the burn near where it enters the loch and walked from there. Was your route much the same?

Mr Hurst could probably walk through the loch and still keep his head above water!

Yes, pretty much that route. The burn is quite narrow and shallow at one point, and easily crossed via some rocks. Then just follow your nose to the spot. Not the easiest terrain, but it wasn't too difficult.

It's quite a long time after the event, I know, but I've just finished editing my Great Britain VII footage. This year there were three of us in two cars and we managed pretty good coverage, in spite of the weather. The finished product fills 2 discs (about 85 minutes on one, 75 on the other), available separately or together, and I've posted some tasters from each day on YouTube.

Try this play-list to see them all, or go to my channel page to pick and chose.
