I saw a nicely restored pre-BR box van on a low loader on the M25 eastboundin Sussex yesterday - does anyone know what it was and where it might be going?

Does anyone know about the two GUV's that have arrived at the MHR in the last few weeks.

Understand GUV derivative 94213 (95373-86258) has arrived at Mid Hants Recently but not aware of a second. Apparently a Mark 1 BFK arrives last week, believed to be 17023 (ex 14023).

 

I see that the LNWR semi-royal saloon from the Bluebell is now at Isfield.

 

And still for sale, I believe.

What's the story there something like that would normally be snapped up?

 

Been on the market for a long time (several years at least) so maybe the price is wrong? I believe the owner has had offers to buy it and convert it to a grounded body (i.e. holiday accommodation etc) but as I understand, he is only prepared to sell to a new owner who will use it operationally on a railway.

I can confirm that gwr no8 a dean four wheeler has moved from SDR to the Gwili having touched down at the Gwili 20 minutes ago.

 

Also that TVR 28 has left Llangollen and is currently in secure storage in Cardiff on route to the Gwili tomorrow.

 

Mk1 FO 3132 is moving to the GWSR from the Epping and Ongar probably this week or next. it was formally a Riviera Trains Carriage.

 

Mark 1 TSO 4754 has arrived on the Bluebell, purchased from the MoD at Bicester. Once available for traffic, this will be a "like for like" replacement of TSO 4957, which will be sold. 4754 is preferred as a long-term vehicle for the heritage mark 1 set as, so I understand, it is an older vehicle with a more original interior.

Any news on the LSWR coach at Bicester? It was supposed to have been up for auction over a year ago, but as far as I am aware it is still in MoD ownership.

 

I understand that the other carriage at Bicester, Saloon WGP8800 converted from an LSWR Dining Saloon used as an ambulance train coach in WWII, has been acquired by the NRM and is to be accessioned to the National Collection. Movement to York is apparently imminent. Hopefully the NRM will be giving more details soon but it is probably the carriage being referred to in http://www.nrm.org.uk/AboutUs/PressOffice/PressReleases/2014/April/soldiers.aspx although as far as I am aware it was not used as a Ambulance carriage in WWI.

 

I believe the Bluebell did consider, at least informally, bidding for the vehicle but decided against. So I understand, the reason was that it was difficult to see a viable commercial use for the vehicle in its current form, but rebuilding as a restaurant car would be expensive and arguably would strip away some of the historical interest. So it is good to see that it has found a secure home: LSWR carriages aren't exactly common in preservation. Plenty of grounded bodies, but not many groups interested in restoring them (in contrast to, say, LBSCR and SECR vehicles).

York Area Group has just acquired 4 out of 5 Seacow / Sealion 40t Ballast Hoppers for the NYMR
Most of them arriving this week.
The four new arrivals are all Shildon built 1972 to lot 3802.
DB982595 is dual braked and thus a SEALION
DB982608,DB982619 and DB982849 are all air braked only and classified as SEACOW.
They will join Seacow DB982667 which arrived 23rd April 2014 from Doncaster.
These are all vehicles declared scrap from work on Network so will require work to bring them up to scratch.

I believe it is one of Andrew Goodman's GWR toplights (or is it drop lights, something-lights anyway) That was what we thought it was when looking at it a while ago, but we weren't entirely sure. As to where it's going, hopefully somewhere where they can restore it, I think we'd all like to but we just can't with our current program and lack of storage.
