I was also at Yatton. I was filming the train from under the station footbridge (to keep dry). I was the guy with the sturdy tripod. Did we speak to each other?

No.9 was very impressive with the sound of that wonderful chime whistle as it hurtled towards the station. In my film sequence I pan around with the loco and
manage to include the well wishers in the distance waving to the train. Despite the weather it was well worth it.

    Happy days. :) <BJ>

I notice that the train ran without the class 47 diesel to Bristol. Well done RYTC / WCRC. <BJ>

60009 'Union of South Africa' arr Bristol TM 13 1/5 mins early at 19:45 1/2 according to RTT.
The timings suggest a start to stop time between Taunton and Bristol TM of 47 1/2 mins.
    Can anyone verify?

Well done to all concerned. Hope the weather did not spoil the day for the passengers. <BJ>

I travelled on this train and can confirm the timings are correct from Taunton to Temple meads! Thanks to RTC, West Coast, WSR, SVR and all connected with 60009 (saved the day at last minute) for a great day out!

You have actually hit on an interesting conundrum. If you curtail high speed running you would get more time on each tour but possibly loose exitement factor. Run fast and arive early or spend time in loops or platforms like they did last night at Worcester

'Union of South Africa' returned to Southall this afternoon (engine and coach) in glorious sunshine ......slightly better conditions than yesterday.
Thankfully the loco and support crew were available for the tour to the WSR this weekend. Thanks again to all who made this possible. <BJ>

Neil - I have a possible explanation why the error occured. do you think this plausible.

When propelling the ECS out of the down goods loop the train would be too long for the platform. I cant remember exactly where the down starter is but I would hazzard a guess that it had to be cleared to get the train behind the down platform up starter. The track circuit to Hagley would thus be ocupied and gave the false starting time.

    Thoughts?

That's probably how it happened - the headcode probably jumped into the berth that's picked up when a train leaves Kidderminster and with the track circuit being occupied probably confirmed it. I was wondering how that might have happened and you've explained it!
