GWSR Cotswold Festival of Steam, May 24th - 26th 2014

I could only manage one day at the GWSR Cotswold Festival of Steam this year, and it would seem that I luckily managed to pick the one with the best weather when I turned up on Sunday 25th.

Lovely pictures, I think we must have almost tripped over each other at some point as I have some exact same shots!

 

At last!................................ HERE'S a small gallery of my efforts from a very wet/dry Saturday.

 

Very impressive, looking at a couple of your photos at Winchcombe and consulting with the timetable we must have only just missed each other!

How do you do the effect on your photos, what settings do you twiddle, is it more complex than that, or have you just got a better camera than me!? Looks good anyway, looking forward to next year already, might try and get out and about with it a bit more next year, but then again I did enjoy watching everything go by from my vantage point at the end of the carriage and wagon works...

As for "ships that pass in the night"............................ I did ask if you were about, but was told that you'd nipped out for a pint ...................................... of milk LOL!!

You must have a very nice camera then, I just assumed it was done on photoshop or similar, if you look at the difference between your photos and the OPs they are noticable certainly to me anyway. Mine's a Samsung WB500, My Dad's old camera, I must admit I don't really fiddle about with exposure and aperture and all that stuff, more of a point and shoot person, perhaps I ought to read up on all that stuff.

 

If you can use manual settings, ie, f stop, shutter speed do!!

Trust yourself, and experiment..................... you'll soon grow confident in your abilities....

As for the differences between mine and the Op's....................... I use filters (which I doubt would fit your camera - though I may be wrong!) I also shoot in RAW and use a very low ISO...... after that its down to the processing software.

 

Ahh, I see *he says nodding, pretending to understand* I can't see much fitting my camera, it's not that sort as you say, but I'll have a look and see what settings I can change next time I'm there.

 

The way I see it is, it doesn't matter how "good" or how much your camera cost, nor how many bells and whistles it has....................... its only going to be as good as the person using it.

So the more you get to know you camera - fiddle with settings (even if its only changing the auto settings) and experiment, and most importantly, trust in your own abilities and you'll soon start to see the difference!!

Put another way, I know someone with a camera that has a damn sight more bells & whistles than mine, and would've cost an arm and a couple of legs when new.................... but he hasn't got a clue how to use it - suffice to say his images aint much kop!!
