The only big question will be which way round will the visiting locos arrive. Wouldn't mind seeing two or three visiting locos facing out of Alton for a change.

    Just off Facebook!

We are delighted to announce that Manor Class No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor will be joining our impressive Autumn Steam Gala lineup, courtesy of the Erletsoke Manor Fund and Severn Valley Railway!

As part of our GWR themed gala she will be joining Castle Class No. 5029 Nunney Castle, Hall Class No. 6960 Raveningham Hall, GWR Tank 4270 and Britannia Class No.70000. Britannia will be renumbered as 70025 Western Star especially for the event!

Excellent news.... a Manor on green SR stock, just like the old inter-regionals on the Redhill line. Looking forward to this. Also, living so close to the station in Alresford, I should get some good garden sound effects from all these barking GWR engines!

With 5 visiting engines, 4 passenger sets ( assuming no shuttle) and 1 freight will the home fleet be required ?

A little taster of what I think will be the "star" of the show (if only for noise alone!) can be found Here...... or Here!

I was wondering about that but with it being gala season I wonder how many of the home fleet will actually be there. Wouldnt be surprised if Nelson and Cheltenham are elsewhere during the gala.

Maybe someone else could come forward and run a photo charter.

Its pretty much Matt & Warwicks territory..........

Then of course, is the loco (or any of them for that matter....) available for charters? If so, at what cost ( remember the proposed cost of a charter with Braunton!)

Maybe close down some stations, leave the sheds unlocked and invite local scrotes to help themselves overnight and why not scrap the bunch engines too for that ultra real effect ?

    :)

Steam gala is a STEAM gala.

    Exactly! :)

And the last time the MHR tried a mixed traffic gala, 2010, I believe the numbers didn't stack up........................................ Its either a steam gala or a box bonanza, but NOT a combination of both! ;)

Cater for specific market and get the engines that will appeal, and its a winning formula, dilute things with boxes that aren't in two tone or just green - then people loose interest!!

And you wont find me anywhere near a cranks gala!

I would say all my most entertaining and enjoyable preserved steam runs have been behind Manors, it's very rare to have a dull/quiet run with their bark, and on the Mid-Hants gradients... might be even better than 20087 at last year's diesel gala... (because I'm open-minded enough to appreciate all preserved heritage traction that volunteers pour their time and effort into, and won't be throwing pathetic, denigrating terms like 'box' and 'kettle' around)

Well. like Unlikely, I think it may have some competition! This other "Star" (oh well, Manor really) was certainly making a good noise when it passed me a couple of months ago.
