Hey I am looking at attending the Swanage 35 gala in July and wondered if anyone knows if they will running one of those historic bus services from a local train station like GSWR and the MHR have done in the past? Where I dont drive getting to the Swanage Railway is a bit of pigs ear.

    Cheers
    Simon

Hourly bus service from Wareham....leaves from the roundabout by the upside station approach....normally dep xx04. Ask to alight at Norden Campsite and the station is about 3-4 min walk

As has been stated, Tornado is visiting for the event.

Draft timetable and loco diagrams have been forwarded to our publicity guys for uploading onto the website; this will take place in a week or so's time, once people have had the chance to have a say on them as there are a few things being tried that are a bit different.

What I can say though is that it's not planned to be one of those gala's where everything is in use. Rather it is more planned to be representative of the Swanage Railway through the years, so there will be appearances for a class 33, DMMU, along with a few steam engines (as well as 60163) etc.

Great to see the timetable in advance, I'm now planning to visit.
A couple of questions, will non dining passengers be able to travel on the Wessex Belle, is 80104 now out of service?

    Thanks!

There will be three non-dining coaches on the Wine and Dine set which are available for general passenger use. Basically the shuttle set and the dining set will be combined for those two trips.

80104 is currently out of traffic, with the boiler away at a contractors. The boiler is currently expected back sometime mid/end July, as I understand it.

Slightly going off at a tangent, but have there been any further developments regarding the Swanage Railway's proposal to buy 80104 from SLL? It all seems to have gone quiet recently.

One of the "faults" with Swanage is that it just gets on with the job quietly and doesnt shout about what it is doing from the roof tops so I dare say that somewhere behind the scenes there are people talking....

I am travelling from Portsmouth via train to get to the gala what's the best way to get the railway? Some people say the train to Poole and then get a bus to swanage and others say get the train to wareham and bus to corfe castle. Any advice?

Depending where you want to start your day from.
If it from Norden then may I suggest train to Wareham then
Wareham - Corfe - Swanage bus service

or if you want to start from Swanage then may I suggest bus from Bournemouth to Swanage via Studland ferry....

Is there a reason behind why evening trains always stop/start at Corfe and not Norden on any operating day?

If you mean the evening diesel service in the Summer months, I can only assume it's because the park and ride closes at 8 in the evening from April to September so there is no need really for it to go there after it's closed. The first two evening services with the diesel in Summer do start and finish at Norden though. I can only imagine it's also the reason why steam isn't going there in the evening for the gala.
