I agree people will go with what interests them but sometimes there is a choice of organiser.

When 6023 visited the GC there were 5 charters split been 4 organisers.

As a regular charter attendee I can confirm that whilst the same basic principles are followed there are personal differences which make all the difference. Some organisers stand back and let the group take their shots; some have fixed ideas about locations; some run a fixed number of runpasts and some intend to ensure that they - as organiser - get the best shots even if to the disadvantage of group members. For those of us able to attend a limited number of events, we tend to support the organiser whose programme of events on the day offers the best variety of images. But an oft overlooked fact is that the income from the charter fees is expected to go to the heritage line / locomotive owner and the crew collection is expected to go in total to the crew; there are suggestions that some charter organisers do not follow this creed hence another reason for supporting an organiser who "does wot he says" and has been proved to have done so over the years.

I don't think Maud would have brought many extra people through the doors and if Sidmouth's estimated cost for the transport of 62712 is reasonably correct then I still think NRM struggled to break even on Maud. As for the A4s were the UK moves sponsored or did the NRM have to pay these. Did the NRM have to pay for the UK resident locos or were they there for free? There is only one person that could answer that, Anthony Coulls and I don't think he would be allowed to divulge such information

As one of the crew members from the charters with 62712 on the B&KR in May I have to say everyone involved was offered their cut of the tips - Most of which were donated by each crew member to their chosen SRPS project. The charters as a whole raised around £10k for the society which are much needed funds for the loco's pending overhaul!

We found the organiser to be very pleasant and appreciative of our efforts, the photographers seemed pleased as well! I can't say what it's like with other organisers as these were my first but it would be interesting to see how every individual works.

On the subject of Maude, as far as I know, she was supposed to return on the low loader the NRM had sent to collect MR 1000 to offset the costs but sadly this wasn't the case - and we are still waiting for our loco!

I would expect Martin is quite accurate in his five-figure estimate for costs. When the Strathspey looked at hiring 34070 the budget for transport was around £10,000 for haulage (return trip from Herston/Swanage).

That is good to hear as the crews put the most effort into creating a successful day . Crew collections on a well attended charter can often raise over £200 so its nice to know its put to good use

In running events with 55189 five years ago I had a trememdous time at Bo'ness and would happily come back for something that will tempt people north of the Border

Interestingly the retirement of John Antell seems to have caused prices to rise generally . John's enthusiasm for Steam and competitive pricing was very much appreciated

Having only recently got into the charter market myself, I booked onto several charters for the early part of this year. As a 'newbie' my confidence of booking onto more has become less likely, alongside the charter hotels and transport have to be paid for. Two out of the three charters I booked onto this year have either had dates changed or cancellations due to the lack of numbers (1 of which I never received a refund) meaning new / wasted hotel bookings.

If the charter scene is to survive some compromise will have to happen... The charters I have had the pleasure of taking part in over the last couple of years have been a pleasure and enjoyable day out, although confidence is easily lost...

Simon sorry to hear that your charter experience has not been great . I try not to cash cheques until very close to the event and if an event is cancelled will refund money , unless participants want to hold it as a credit

This information should be available in the NRM's accounts for the financial year 2013/14 when published.
If they are not you can always ask the NRM and should they not respond you can submit a freedom of information request if you really want to know.

However with regard to the U.K. based A4s this information is all out there and has been widely discussed, in various places - let Google be your friend.

Agreed, will correct the year to 2013.
Although I bet in 3013 there will still be arguments on here about liveries.

Yes, but no doubt the replica of Maude will be accurately painted!

The NYMR have been trying to get the D49 as a visitor for years, but the SRPS seem utterly opposed to the notion, regardless of what gaurantees are offered regarding loads and sections of the line where it would or would not be used. Such a shame considering that these engines were a staple of the line in BR/LNER days and it would look the part with a train of Gresleys. I don't know why the opposition is so steadfast, but it seems to be.

And we'll still be waiting for :
    - some barry wrecks that "will be ready when their ready"
    - 6100 to haul it's first mainline railtour
    - a refurb set of Mk1s without heating issues
    - the ACE re-run to happen with a MN.

Not at all. There are pictures of BR black D49s on varnished teak. Stuff tended to get repainted after a works visit so until everything had gone through works, all manner of combinations were possible. IIRC some LNER teak stock never got painted in BR colours if it was due for withdrawal before a works visit.

If I am honest I'm not really fussed about knowing the cost but I am grateful to all the people that arranged for these events to happen. No doubt, we all in our own small ways, contributed something to the cost of these events.

61264 the issue isn't the SRPS in general, it is particular members - the one who initially said no (and continues to fight this) as well as those he brainwashed into thinking the same thing. A D49 on the NYMR would look stunning and I do think people under-estimate her power... unless its a wet day

Just give us a few years, I'm sure you can figure out why! ;)
