Other way round would be better for passengers. If you go anticlockwise then south of Sellafield will be after sunset. I'd rather see the coast in daylight personally, then back over Shap as it starts to get dark.

Though towards the end of the season southbound along the coast at sunset could be rather nice...

Isn't there a limitation on stock that can be used on Cumbrian Coast, whilst warmer with Mk2d's it's not half as fun.
Also Shap northbound is more fun than looking at Nuclear Waste Dumps in daylight.

You can prob get away with MK1's if you have stewards enforcing the no window hanging bit on the affected section.

Where would you change over from the 86 to steam around Manchester ?, presumably you need the through platform at Piccadilly for that route and Stockport isn't much quieter.

It could always start from York and run through Manchester Victoria - 86 London to York and back :)

Castleton?? Although the Wizard stock on Saturday evening went to Crewe for the night due to the block north of Preston.

Mk 1's were used on the previous Cumbrian Coast with 46115 and presume it will be the same again this weekend. Extra stewards are brought in to cover the vestibules. Last time passengers were asked to refrain from using all windows and they appeared to comply.

Trouble with going to near Manchester you then get bogged down with slow running until clear of the commuter belt. That the problem many tours running in the London area, time wasted pottering through suburbs. That's why loco changes at Crewe, Preston or Carnforth are so good, steam gets on and straight into proper running.

RTC has advertised 8 Winter CME's for 2015 with 'usual' itinerary ... (although 3 of the dates seem to be wrong down the left of the page)

    Seems this thread is redundant!
Is the season opener 2 jubilees instead of 2 fives next year?

It also says steam, Scots Guardsman or Britannia, comes on and off at Crewe, if so that's good news.

looking at the dates on RTCs sight suggests (although the dates are incorrect) that there could be a 3 week gap in March (is this when the S&C work is on going)..
but mentioned elsewhere NR has a 2 weekend blockade on the WC at Watford during Feb Half term weeks… is there an alternative route out of London with AC ?

I can't think of any alternative AC route out of London at the moment; wait a few years and there will be plenty but for now, any diversion would have to be diesel hauled.
I would hazard a guess that March is when the S&C work is happening. As such, there is Hadrian from Manchester Vic advertised for March 7th (Probably running over Shap to reach Carlisle) and a Cumbrian Coast Express for March 14th before going back to Winter CME's on March 21st.

Yes looks very good with much more steam mileage. Although trains are shown non stop from Preston to Carlisle I would think they will be looped at Carnforth for water and to let WC fasts past. The times from there could well be the same as this year which were OK with 46115 but a struggle with the Jub.

Looking forward to bashing one of these as our only winter steam hauled main line venture. Our trip on 22nd Feb was excellent but outdone by the sparkling running on the last CME of the winter.

That may be solved now as I believe Galatea had some superheater tubes replaced recently..

Oh good, hopefully that will put an end to her erratic performances, it certainly seems so recently. (Tubes or Elements ?)

That's interesting news but she is still a single chimney Jubilee and therein lies a slight limitation (with apologies to LMS folk about that obeservation).
