I guess you're probably right but you'd have thought that decision could be made by control and communicated to whoever anyway.

I'm just pleased I was one of those lucky enough to be on the Days Out 71000 trip from Euston to Manchester in Autumn 1995. That did go via Weedon and produced an electrifying, (rather than electric), climb up Camden Bank, : )

Never assume anything when it's a VT run...;).

If Saturday's run is non stop - it will indeed be quite an achievement especially through the Northampton bottleneck and I don't underestimate the effort needed by NR to find a workable path. On the Weedon point, I imagine that the issue with the direct route is combining something sensible down to Hillmorton and then onwards from Hanslop with the 'non-stop' request that poses the problem. The small amount of 'white space' that does exist on the 23 odd mile Kilsby leg would involve 'shoehorning' a charter between the Pendos and also expecting the charter to average 60. To be fair, why on earth would NR bother with that especially when the close running of Pendos, almost in convoy over some sections of the WCML, really can pose major timekeeping issues should there be any hiccup?

Just playing around, I had a look at RTT. There are 11 services booked to pass Weedon between 09.32 and 10.32. The largest gap between them is 13 minutes, the shortest 2 minutes, and most seem to be booked around 12 minutes from Hilmorton Junc to Hanslope Junc.

Yes, tight but not impossible. For example, as we pass Hillmorton (0950) there is a Pendo from Manchester heading for Euston at 0951. Nothing then happens on the direct route until a service from Liverpool at 1014 except for the service from Birmingham at 1001. Without that train (or if it is running late) there is a 20+ minute gap, plenty of time to pop down to Milton Keynes via Weedon but that's no guarantee that we'd slot as well into the SL stuff south of MK. As Bob Meanley has already said, when you look at the WCML paths yourself, you begin to realise how tight things are.

What you need is something to happen north of Rugby; a signal failure at Nuneaton perhaps. Anyone got any wire cutters...? ;-)

Actually, a southbound freight failure at Long Buckby would be interesting........and we have been there before with 60009 I recall.

Illustrates why 86259 is needed on the WCME for a faster path.

Hoping to see 46233 arrive at Euston. Been waiting a long time to see 46233. UkSteam seems to have it down as arriving at Euston at 11:33 and leaving for Southall at 12:32 so plenty of time to get a good look at her assuming that's the case.

Left New Street on time and was 1 early through Berskwell - going well!

I personally liked the westbound departure - meant I could see it at New Street and catch it on the run! Just hope its as good (if not better) for those on board.

That was a good trip. Just a shame I've mislaid the tape that had the climb of Camden Bank on it.

9 minutes early ! Was never in doubt, especially when it's a Tyseley ran excursion.
