Oddly (for a southern railway) this promises to be the GW gala to end all GW galas. Quite how we sequence all the low loaders I don't know.

Bloody hell! :) This is turning into a massive event. I was hoping they would get a 14xx tank with an auto-trailer. And there might be the possibility of ANOTHER VISITOR! Definitely doing all 3 days now.

My Dad isn't too impressed with these copper capped things though

The auto train is the highlight for me.

I'm thinking out loud, so this could turn out to be garbage (it probably will be...).

This 'one further addition' - is it limited to just locomotives? Maybe the MHR have been in touch with Riviera Trains and are looking at hiring some of the Torbay Express Mk1 (choc/cream) set from Riviera Trains? Are they dual braked?

I imagine somebody at the MHR is still working out how they can pass Braunton off for another visit as a WR engine, though... ;)

Does anyone think that this whole line-up being announced now shall make it through the summer peak season?

This line-up is huge and anything can happen between now and then.

Yes, but even if something happened to one or two of these visitors between now and October, it's still going to be an impressive line-up.

I am guessing with all the other steam galas the same weekend the MHR are attempting to get people to book/hooked early on. I will going for certain so it has worked

So no different to any other Gala, roster or other preadvertised event then?

Worst that can happen is we have a gala with a 9F, Lord Nelson, Cheltenham, Wadebridge and something acquired at short notice. Most lines would be delighted with that.

I don't think gala organisers can win. Announce your line up early and you'll get criticised for not delivering exactly what you promised. Hold on to the last minute until you are certain of what is actually available and you'll be criticised for not providing any info up front!

Technically they are dual braked, but since largely only DBS use Riveira stock now, is there any incentive to maintain the Vac gear ?.

Edit: what's to stop them driving Nunney or the Brit in air brake mode then ?.

Reading Steam Railway mag today. I see 70000 Britannia Could now run as 70018 Flying Dutchman instead of 70025 Western Star. If you had a choice of renumbering 70000 Britannia to one of the names already put forward which one would you prefer?

70025 Western Star gets my vote.

    Cheers

I like to see it as Iron Duke. Always liked that name and it's a very powerful British name

Could they not split the sides with two different numbers/name plates and get two for the price of one?
