All you say above is true and there's definitely no way you can please everyone. However, witness the scene at New Street. You expect to see a diesel arrive pulling a train with a Duchess on the other end. What turns up is a Duchess with a diesel on the back and the train heads off in a different direction from what you thought. Many of us on the train already knew what was going on and why (from Bob's NP post). But many did not and neither the paperwork with the ticket or anything said officially on the day gave any clues. OK - word did get around but not managed by VT. That was a missed trick, in my view. The good news for you is that I think by the end of the day the disgruntled passenger that prompted my original comment had been won around. (This is an observation not a criticism. What VT provides is top quality in an uncertain and definitely unpredictable environment)

I can't speak for anyone else, but New St - Stechford via Adderley Park is certainly no great scenic or performance delight, the route via Perry Barr included Soho Bank and if your a track basher, that side of the triangle at Perry Barr is very rare.

Only trouble is a repeat of a good itinary would probably need Sutherland again, as good as Edgcumbe is, lifting 15 up Camden is prob asking too much of a class 7.

I wasn't a customer this time but you will be the first operator to get my dosh when time allows. Your trips are head and shoulders above the competition and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to see that trip last Saturday!

    Impressed is an understatement.

Vintage Trains offer the best steam hauled trips with plenty of steam milage, good prices, good destinations.

VT have a brilliant relationship with network rail and with past trips that has been proved. Plenty of non-stop runs, letting steam go onto rare steam location.

We should be getting beind Bob, Ben snd vt crew for an amazing hard job they do to plan these trips.

I was onboard the midlander and was impressed throughout with the duchess and the disesl helping us.

Hopefully more non stops planned in near future. When does the vt brochure for sept to dec 14 get released?

This tour was one of three I managed to see during a day in London, I have a few shots of her arrival and departure at Euston as well as two other steam runs that were running that day (44932 & 35028)

That first one really shows the Duchess as the imposing machine she is alongside the modern counterpart. There is just no comparison.
