Anyone thinking of heading to Colton Junction for this and/or 5972 on Saturday should note that there is a race meeting in York that day which is likely to cause long delays on the A64. Queues usually extend back to Tadcaster and sometimes almost as far as the A1(M).

Last year there was lots of mutton dressed as lamb tottering about on York station on their way to the races, and later in the day, much the same only under the influence...

I'm sure that the race goers were equally delighted to meet us trainspotters! :)

I seem to recall somebody posting on here (on the annual Scarborough Spa thread I think) last year or the year before that they had given up their seat to a race goer who had lost the knowledge of how to remain upright, ending their post with the comment:

"And people say Railway Enthusiasts are strange!"

    Quite!

Anyone wanting to go on the platforms at York should be aware that grippers, backed up by BTP officers, are usually very active on race days, with temporary barriers up to prevent non-ticket holders from getting onto the platforms. However, they do have passes for use by folk seeing off passengers, and are also prepared to issue passes to itinerant gricers.

Bit confused about the timings, as the times state that it will take 43 minutes to do Chesterfield to Barrow Hill North Junction !

Doesn't state a water stop for Chesterfield or Barrow Hill North.

I am sure this came up last year and there was a second water stop between Chesterfield and Barrow Hill North.

The usual location for the water stop in the Barrow Hill area isn't a recognised timing point so won't appear on realtimetrains.

On time at Wychnor Jn. 47 on the back - is it coming off at Derby to wait for the return?

Sun in the wrong place but lineside trees made the other side impossible
