34016 apparently suffered a hot box at Rugby - been moved into the sidings. Source: SE gen.

Pined at Rugby, apparently due to a hot box.

Anyone know if 34016 is visible in the sidings from the station platforms? Might pop up to have a look.

It is (was) in the sidings behind platform 6 and clearly visible when I went down there about 4pm. A West Coast guy said that there may be a chance they'd be leaving again about 6.... Not sure if that helps.

Not quite - as was proved today when WCRC used its Southall - Carnforth path to move 34016 + 2 coaches top ' tailed by 57313 / 314. Sadly a hot axle box and wheel set problems meant that the train got as far as Rugby before being cancelled. At this moment I have no idea what Plan B will be but expert (i.e. lineside) opinion is that 34016 will continue northwards by road.

I and probably everyone else, were surprised that wasn't plan A as had been widely expected!

At least she made it from Alton to Southall OK, that run was limited to 60mph, so to put it a path timed at 95mph may have been tempting fate.............. lets face it she hasn't gone at that lick for many a year.

A 5T43 departed Rugby for Carnforth in the last hour. Whether that is the full consist including 34016, or just the 57s with the two coaches remains to be seen/confirmed.

Trouble is, you can't just dump a large loco in the nearest siding and whistle up a large lorry to the trackside to pick it up.

Theoretically if they had dragged it to the Colas depot next door it could have gone on a lowloader. 37421 arrived and left that way.

any further information on the move? if theres wheel set problems ,as well as a hot box, its hardly likily to to be continueing its move by rail. or is the hot box on the wheel set concerned.

The job lot is on the move, from what I've heard it sounds like 34016 is now sandwiched between the 2 57's. And although it hasn't been reported since Rugeley it's also just as likely that they are making it sit at Colwich for the next 45 minutes until it's booked passing time.

Is this the first time a loco that looks like (sorry has been) in withdrawn / stored condition for many years has been towed across the national network since the last locos were towed out of Barry by rail ?
You don't see many "as withdrawn" looking steam loco being dragged across the network everyday... Is this Bringing back memories for anyone ? (Not me I'm too young, in the UK, but I've seen it overseas)

I think Can Pac was towed by rail after being stored at Ropley to Eastleigh for further storage prior to its latest strip down, a couple of years back.
