She's off to Carnforth late tonight, apparently. 30mph maximum speed...

It occurred to me that here is a recreation of the sad sights of the 1960s, with withdrawn engines going on their one way trip to locomotive Valhalla, as it were. Rods off & diesel hauled. At least there's a happy ending in store for Bodmin :)

that makes sense , after all if your going to run at 30 mph you wouldnt do it until the early hours of the morning when there should be no passenger workings for you to get in the way of, back in the days at the end of steam most scrapyard movements were done at 25 mph i remember reading, with a minder on each loco being hauled dead, that must have been a very long cold journey

I always thought a midnight flit would be the best solution rather than trying to run her at "top speed"!

To be honest a, I surprised by the move by rail (which raises the question - who's footing the the bill for this?) and b. she actually made it from Alton to Southall without incident! lets face it that move probably gave an air of false confidence....... given that she's be sat doing nothing for a looong time....... so to expect her to be able to do Southall to Carnforth in one hit is inviting trouble..... the move should've been done in bite sized chunks as is proving to be the case.

i was very surprised also, i would have expected a full wheel set and bearing inspection to have been carried out prior to any move from Southall, and then at reduced speed with stops to examine on the way, given that the loco had not turned a wheel for ages moving it in a 60 mph path seems to be not wise. and has been shown to have not been the right decision

Strange, very strange, its very obviously arrived, but i cant find any details of the move so has it been confermed that she is now owned by CRSS as stated in Andrews picture i wonder if in time 73096 will be joining her?

Rumours of 34016's demise were exaggerated!

    (With apologies to Mark Twain....)

What is of interest is regarding 34073's boiler. If you look closely at the picture, you can clearly see a bundle of small tubes next to the wagon, so the overhaul is clearly progressing.

It is good to see rail haulage used for this type of movement. I hope that the right lessons are learned so that this obvious method can be used more often in future for locos, carriages and wagons.
