Couldn't find a thread for this (looked back 10 pages), so apologies if I'm starting a duplicate. Interested to know how 60009 does over Shap today.

I thought from the RTC thread this was affected by one of the firefighters strikes? Has this been the case and, if so, how?

    Thanks

    Steven

Apologies - you are correct - strikes start Monday for 8 days.

Footage from Wilpshire Bank on the return leg with excellent sound for the climb up to the tunnel.

    Hope you enjoy.

Full credit to the driver for the clean exhaust a and John Cameron for whistling to prove there was steam to be had. Sadly the fire risk has seen 5972 and 46233 involved with diesel traction during the day so full credit for remaining steam hauled on its full (steam) itinerary.

Some nice clips. Thanks for posting. Just as an aside, given the less than favourable posts from one or two about last weekend and Tornado's effortless assault of Shap with little steam effect, how did that difffer from UoSA today? Perhaps the truth is that LNER locos just don't have to make a fuss about what they do. [IMG]

So, I must have driven almost level with steam over Shap on my way to Scotland for Owls a week ago, ( I saw all the parked gricing cars). I was over Shap at just gone 13.00 running within ACPO "guidelines".

And been close to this one on my way back yesterday.

I really ought to take the steam times with me so I can take a well timed PNB break.

Oh. Just seen which locos were on those trains. :(

In that part of the world I'll only stop to photo locos whose numbers are 5 digits long and start with a 4. :)

The exception being a Brit of course, had some good runs over Shap in 1967. Including a superb climb coming South on, I think, the 14.00 ex Glasgow. I can still hear the wonderful exhaust nose we enjoyed for mile after mile after mile.

What about locos whose numbers are 5 digits long and start with 34 or 35?

You obviously either have a fear of the Devil [i.e. owt that starts with 6] or have never met John Cameron who tries to be on the footplate for main line running of his locomotives. But just to put things in proper perspective; yesterday of 3 locos that were out in the north 1 was removed from the train at York and returned home loco+ECS, 1 was replaced by diesel mid-way on the outward journey and left at York and 1 worked its booked turn with neither diesel in sight nor delay to train bar awaiting block clearance from preceding train.

If you fail to appreciate one of Britain's finest steam locomotives still at work after 80 years then I fear you have no soul: perhaps your future lies in owl-watching rather than steam traction.
