Not sure how lost this really is but an interesting little story all the same:

Now, if only I had a spare couple of million lying around.

That old chestnut. Some time after the filming finished this guy purchased this Spitfire and six(?) Hispano Buchon (RR Merlin powered Bf-109) and has had them up for sale before. This is just his latest attempt.

No I do not currently volunteer
Has he still got the Buchon's?

I knew that quite a few went to the States but understood many had failed victim to the types notorious tendency to ground loop.

Quite regularly. There are usually one or two flyers up for sale at any one time.

He's not had his hand torn off when he's tried to sell it previously so maybe he's asking too much. I've no idea what one is worth but I know a man who does.

There's an airworthy Mk.1 at Duxford reportedly on the market as I type.

As you say he's most likily asking too much mk9's arent exactly rare either , now if it had been a mk 22 how many of those are airworthy? i'm surprised none of the Buchon's have not found new owners , is it because of the lack of DB605 engines to turn one into a proper 109g

Possibly, also the prices that Mr Edwards has been asking are not exactly bargain basement either.

DB605s aren't exactly thick on the ground. Was talking to a couple of German guys at Duxford and they tell me of three projects to return DB powered 109s to the air but in each case they are Buchons being converted to 109s. Airworthy original German built 109s are not common at all.
Also there are differences wing wise between a Buchon and a pukkka 109 due to the differing armament fits.
